Damiano's Pizza & Pasta House — Restaurant in Saint Paul's Bay

Really great service and friendly staff. The view from the few outside tables are amazing, but close to the road. The garlic bread as starter was lacking garlic taste in our opinion and seemed not to be made out of home baked bread. The chili oil on the side was a great touch. My girlfriend went for a curry chicken pasta dish and I went for a pepperoni pizza. The pasta and a good strong curry taste and but was lacking some overall flavor. The pizza was made from a nice homemade dough baked in stone oven and the mozzarella was good. I missed a bit more taste in the pepperonis and they seemed to have been pre cut and not from a whole salami which would have been a extra touch. The green peppers and olives a good compliment...

Having seen the good reviews, and looking for a proper italian pizza, I went to Damiano's but ended up rather disappointed. The pizza base is made with too refined flour and insufficient leavening, rendering a kind of biscuity consistency to it ('biscottosa' in italian), common mistakes to be honest, but given the reviews my expectation was definitely higher. Toppings were fairly ok, although the menu items clearly indicate lack of understanding of what proper pizza ingredient combinations are (imo), with e.g. hawayan and some with honey. I actually went for the one with gorgonzola, nuts and honey hoping for an unprecedented geniuos outcome, but ended up disappointed (it could have been okay-ish...

One of my favourite restaurants on the island. I have yet to taste a dish from here that isn't to die for. Pizza is perfectly done and pasta is well-priced, of ample portions and delicious. Setting is lovely; interior is tastefully furnished in a mainly rustic wooden style and decorated with classic Italian imagery as well as local paintings.
