We were delighted to try this restaurant. It received good reviews and wanted to experience something different. Before reviewing the food, I was happy to see clean tables and menus without stains or food. The server, an Indian guy is for sure half the success of the restaurant. His personality, and genuine care made this experience much more than we bargained for.
For starters we had pompodoms and onion baghi. Pompodoms came with authentic in house sauces while the onion baghi were well fried in hot oil that wasn't absorbed by the batter and the taste was great.
Indian beer is available and taste similar to the Maltese cisk.
We also had a dhal soup. Not spicy but heart warming especially since today was raining and cold.
Moving to the main course we had vegetables in tandoori sauce for a vegan option while I had some spicy lamb. I ordered it hot, I would say it was about 7/10 hot. Taste was incredible and the lamb melted in my mouth. The portions are quite large, in fact we shared just one pilau rice.
Adding to our main course was freshly made garlic naan bread. Soft, fluffy and a great combination to our lamb and vegetables. No main course should be taken without naan.
Finally some typical Indian desserts which surely complement this Indian food experience. Typical Indian desserts made by the restaurant itself. Would recommend for anyone with a sweet tooth.

ย ย ย Read moreI recently visited Su Swagat, an Indian restaurant located a few yards away from the Bugibba main square.
I'll have to admit, the restaurant is not exactly welcoming upon first glance from outside, but I decided to give it a fair chance based on the stellar reviews it received thus far.
Upon entering, the staff truly lives up to the restaurant's name, 'Su Swagat' (meaning 'Welcome' in Urdu), as I felt the sense that they were more than happy to serve; a stark difference from the myriad of other perhaps 'fancier' restaurants with employees just there to do their job, almost annoyed that you've entered the restaurant.
I navigated the menu, to which I chose a selection of starters, including pakoras, onion bhajis and samosas, all cooked to perfection with a good balance of spices. For the main course, I ordered a butter chicken and it was perhaps the best I've had in Malta; the flavour was nothing short of astonishing. To finish, I ordered a small portion of kulfi, to which I was informed that it was freshly made in-house.
Looking beyond its humble appearance, I would consider this restaurant a true hidden gem. I am glad that I've decided to try Su Swagat out and I will definitely be returning,...
ย ย ย Read moreBeing an Indian I know the Indian taste well. Having said that, I can say this is the best Indian food experience I had among visits to lots of highly recommended Indian restaurants in atleast 5-6 European countries. They actually know what Indian 'Spicy' means. Whenever we order spicy Indian food in other restaurants we get a food which could be spicy for European taste buds but not actually Indian 'Spicy'. They prepared really spicy and Hot Indian food with flavours that can be felt. The person taking order, Nitin, greeted us well and gave us the food(vegetarian) as per our liking. He was also good in conversation with other customers over phone and delivery guys visiting for order pickup. He also started playing Indian songs as soon as we came showing that he was considerate for customers visiting. Definitely must...
