Having travelled the world and been fortunate enough to enjoy many eateries, yet lazy enough not to review even the best ones, finding a local gem like Tax-Xiha required the recognition it so truly deserves. This is one of those genuine finds in Malta. Outside of the main tourist areas you enter a local suburban square, greeted by friendly neighbours and a stunning church set which set the ambience for an incredible evening. Entering the 500+ year old building and being warmly greeted by the staff who had a genuine interest in making our experience the best possible set the standard for the night - true and genuine maltese hospitality. From drinks to wine selection, everything was on point. Unlike many of extensive menus that exist across Malta's "convenient 4.6 rating for every restaurant, it was refreshing to have a refined selection of quality produce and menu items enabling the kitchen to execute to perfection. We shared a number of dishes, courteously portioned and modified to our requirements without hesitation. We enjoyed a combination of pastas, grilled meat and just made room for some local seafood (fresh, limited and cooked perfectly). My only disappointment is having stumbled across this gem the night before leaving Malta after sampling 3 weeks of...
Read moreWe dined here as a large group. The restaurant is cosy and family owned and we loved the staff and service. However, our group agreed it isn't the best food. The menu has so much on it from meat, to fish, to Spanish paella and Thai curry. It is trying to do "too much" and our guests who veered away from pasta, meat or pizza were disappointed. The rice dishes were plain and lacked skill, but the meat, pizza and pasta were good, in particular the beef tagliata was a star dish. There were a few errors also, for example we ordered pumpkin soup and the soups that arrived had chicken in them. The desserts were also very average- the tiramisu was far too sweet, the panacotta was hard like gelato (not soft or jelly like) and the cheesecakes did not taste much of cheese. All in all we did enjoy the service but we probably would not go back in a big hurry for food. Having said that, if an option in Zebbug is needed then it is good. All in all- our advice would be for the restaurant to reduce its menu to only the dishes it is good at, and then this way customers would have a much...
Read moreWe love Maltese cuisine and have visited many restaurants across Malta. This weekend, we tried Angela’s in Żebbuġ, and we were genuinely impressed. The food is outstanding — a completely different experience from the rest. It tastes exactly like something your nanna would cook. It truly feels like home.
The atmosphere is just as special: a typical Maltese house that welcomes you with the amazing aroma of traditional Maltese coffee. I highly recommend this place not only to tourists but also to locals who want to enjoy truly authentic Maltese food.
I also have to mention the host, Baba. He gave us a warm welcome and was incredibly knowledgeable — about the food, the place, everything. It was even more impressive knowing he’s not Maltese, yet his passion for the job really shines through. Having worked in catering myself, I can easily tell when someone truly cares about what they do.
Well done, Baba, and well done to the entire...
