Dining with acclaimed Italian Chef Sandro Falbo (who hails from Rome via Cabo San Lucas where he was executive chef at The One & Only Palmilla, along with stints at many other luxury and Michellin-starred restaurants around the world) is truly an experience not to be missed! We have dined here twice, once on a date night just after they opened, and again last night with our 3 teenage boys. So I wanted to write a review while the experience was still fresh in our minds! First off, the setting of this restaurant is as gorgeous as it gets. Situated beachfront on a long expanse of white sand and crashing waves, you’ll probably see whales cavorting in the distance. I suggest that you try and arrive before sunset for a real treat. The open air dining room is designed with reflection pools and mood lighting that shimmers like the inside of a seashell. The service is friendly and attentive, and chef Sandro often comes out of the kitchen to make his rounds of the tables and say hello. Which brings me to the food! The dishes are inventive, elevated, farm to table, ingredient driven, seasonal, and delicious - which is just about all you can ask for in a meal. The chef draws on the vast organic vegetable and herb gardens that he grows onsite, as well as local produce and the daily catch from the local fishermen. It just doesn’t get any fresher. While Kahal is billed as a seafood restaurant (at which it excels) my husband has tried both the chicken and the steak entrees and he loved them both. My catch-of-the-day seabass dinner last night was delicious to the last bite, and the savory watermelon salad with olive tapenade was a surprising combo that absolutely worked! I would happily order both of these dishes again. My 16 year old said that the tuna carpaccio appetizer topped with truffle was hands down the best thing he’d ever tasted :) The dessert and cocktail menu is just as inventive and flavorful, and everything is presented so artfully, without being the least bit fussy or pretentious. Needless to say, we love this new restaurant and we look forward to bringing more of our friends here to experience it with us! (And I NEED to eventually trying everything on this inspired menu.)

Our server Jonatan made this experience special - ask for him! It was our first time dining at Kahal and right away we knew it was going to be amazing. The atmosphere was vibrant and elegant. The music was soft, yet upbeat. The staff were all warm and friendly. Our server Jonatan helped us decide on sushi and our entrees. His humor and personality made us feel comfortable and happy to chat with him. We had the Jurel sashimi, (habanero aioli, layu oil, shitake salt, lemon zest, mint) and it was perfect. Then we were given a tostada bite with squid ink and dill that was on the house. The sun set over the beautiful ocean right before our food was served and it was gorgeous. We ate whole Red Snapper and the NY Strip for our main entrees. The sommelier helped my girlfriend pair a nice wine with the Snapper. This fish is caught fresh daily and was so warm and the skin was perfectly crisp and seasoned. The steak could have had a little better sear on the skin but was cooked perfect medium rare and was tender and flavorful. It came with 3 different sauces to dip. We left feeling like we ate a lot but it felt like healthy amount of fullness :) We are definitely eating here again next time we visit! It was fairly priced for the quality of food, service and atmosphere.

Not sure words will capture how absolutely magical dining at kahal is!!! So, where to start…

I guess before I even get into the dining experience itself, I’ll share that I had a chance to tour the rancho farms to see exactly where all the fresh produce for our meal came from. So impressed by the care to bring quality that Chef Sandro & the rancho team show. Before even taking one bite of anything I knew it was going to be spectacular.

We decided to try the sunday seafood brunch & wow, was it amazing. A medley of incredible, fresh, and well thought out dishes that were clearly inspired by baja & elevated to a new level. Highly recommend.

It was actually so good we had to come back for dinner and see what else Chef Sandro had up his sleeve. And another WOWOW, because he outdid himself. I got the seafood pasta and love, love, loved it. Also the nigiri with the fresh catch was unreal. And the kale salad - bravo. Have never been a huge kale fan, but that was special.

And beyond the food, the atmosphere can’t be topped by any other place in baja. The decor is gorgeous, the wind chimes blowing in the breeze launched me into a meditative state, and the views are indescribable. Spotted whales during brunch & caught the most stunning sunset for dinner.
