SHADE at La Fortuna Beach Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Baja California Sur

This place definitely has its pros and cons. On the plus side, the menu is extensive and the food is really good, including the desserts and portions are big. On the negative side, the service is slow, the food came out different as described on the menu and the owner acted like he cared but did nothing to rectify the situation. I ate here twice, once with a group of four people and once for take away. The first time, my husband and I ordered pizzas and our friends ordered fish sandwiches. Our friends were served first while my husband and I waited quite a long time for our pizzas to arrive. Our friends were half finished with their food by the time our pizzas arrived. When my vegetarian pizza came it did not have sun-dried tomatoes or artichokes, ingredients that were listed on the menu. It did have lots of spinach on top which was not listed on the menu. I asked the server why there were no sun-dried tomatoes or artichokes on my pizza. She went back to the kitchen and came out with a small bowl of artichokes. I asked about the sun-dried tomatoes and she said they were out. At this point, since our friends were already almost finished with their meal, I decided to just eat the pizza as it was even though it wasn’t what I ordered. At the end of our meal, after we had paid and were walking out the door, the owner asked how it was, and I told him what had happened with my pizza, failing to mention the fact that our friends order came out first while we had to wait. The owner went into the kitchen to discuss the matter with the kitchen staff. He then came out and told me that it often happens that if the kitchen doesn’t have certain ingredients, they just do what they feel is right without consulting him. He promised that the next time I came in, he would “take care of me.” We live virtually next-door to this restaurant so we went back a few weeks later and I reminded him about our first experience. He remembered me well. I told him that all I wanted was a pizza with sun-dried tomatoes and artichokes and nothing else and I asked him to make sure that there was plenty of those ingredients since I didn’t have those last time. When they brought our food out, I opened the box of the pizza and it did have a small amount of sun-dried tomatoes and artichokes, but it also had mushrooms and onions. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I spent many years as a restaurant manager and I have to say, I feel that the way this owner handled the situation was really bad and I felt like he really didn’t care at all! He acts super friendly and caring, but definitely seems oblivious to what is happening in his restaurant. We will...

Views, unbeatable, atmosphere: as you make it. Made two Canadian friends, awesome for a change. Some American neighbors have been particularly unfriendly to a local Mexican American, seemed unfriendly, and rude to say the least. This is still Mexico even though we allow you to bring your attitude, please BE NICE, no need to be rude, specially while you are on your phone and the people around you are being polite, if you want privacy, GO TO YOUR ROOM, my friend was just showing me the view! You cannot just come here, buy some land and turn it into America, that is where you are running away from too! Just be freaking nice!!! 😉

Service: Locals, as good as it gets. They will cook everything from scratch, wood fire oven pizza, the real thing, it was spicy for me. But just pulled off the Serranos. Their salsa’s are very tasty.
