Tapanco — Restaurant in Baja California

The ambiance is great with lots of greenery and a waterfall in the back room. The service was outstanding. The have a great menu with a selection of steaks, lamb seafood, poultry, etc. Service started with table side made salsa that was both spicy and smoky. Entrees came with a smoky been soup which was great and a basic salad. Personally, I think something other than iceberg would have been better. We ordered a filet, meat sampler (ribeye, lamb and quail) and cowboy steak (ribeye) med rare. They all were on the rare ide of rare - very cold center. a little too rare for me even. But they added heat and always better to be able to add more heat. I didn't think the meat was seasoned well. Definitely needed salt. It's cooked over oak hich I love for brisket but seemed to over power the steaks a bit, especially without more seasoning. First time here. I would give this a 5 star because of their food. I had very delicious half rack of lamb. Staff were very nice. I went to celebrate my birthday the thing that ruined my experience was at the end when I saw the check they charged me 300 pesos for salad which is about $17 when they brought the salad buffet they put it right next to me there was five people, they changed all our plates to clean plates I serve myself and continued serving everybody else the waiter just told me that the salad buffet came included with my meal, they never told me it would an extra charge if I served others. I believe it's part of the waiters job to be honest and tell people up front what to expect. They also charge me for the piece of cheesecake I had which they wrote Happy Birthday it was a very delicious cheesecake but they did charge also. I understand that restaurants have to function and obviously they need our money but Honesty would have completely changed...

Amazing place for authentic, fresh Mexican food. My first visit here and we had vegetarian meal- there were not many choices but the manager offered to make it our way. Delicious salsa and chips- so so fresh! Then they had a server come with all ingredients to make salsa to our preference. We were worried we would get full on the chips. We ordered quesadillas, rice and beans, veggie tacos, veggie burritos and enchiladas. Everyone in our group loved the food. I had veggie burritos and they tasted heavenly- you could taste the freshness of the food. The tortillas are made fresh in the open in the restaurant. The dessert needs a special mention- coconut cake- the best we have ever had- the cake was robust and flavorful with a not too sweet fluffy frosting with a subtle coconut taste.
