SHUGU: The Ball of Rice That Says, “¿Qué onda, y’all?” Picture this: you land in Chihuahua, your boots hit the ground, and your stomach growls louder than a coyote at midnight. You’re craving something wild—Panda Express? A California roll? Or maybe you’re fresh off the plane from Tokyo and already weeping for your beloved onigiri. But hold on, porque aquí, we don’t do basic. Enter shugu: the rice ball that’s part nacho, part onigiri, and 100% puro Chihuahua swagger, served in a Chinese takeout box because why not? The spot itself is cozy—like, “grab a table if you’re quick, but don’t get too comfortable” cozy. With a couple of tables squeezed into the small space, it’s clear this place was made for the grab-and-go crowd. Every few minutes, the Uber Eats chime goes off, like a tiny dinner bell for the modern age, reminding you that this rice ball revolution is heading out the door as fast as it’s made. I saddled up with the Texas Shugu—because duh, when in doubt, go for chicken. And let me tell you, this bad boy hit harder than a West Texas windstorm. Juicy chicken? Check. Spicy sriracha-style sauce? Check. Pickled jalapeños? DOUBLE check. And guess what? You get two sauces free with every order, because Chihuahua’s got that generous abuela energy. The table looked like a shugu fiesta. There was a seafood one I didn’t get to wrestle down (but word was it tasted like a Gulf Coast summer), and the beefy Shugu Toreada (aka “The Bullfighter”), which came out swinging but got KO’d by the caramelized onions—too sweet for my Texas tastebuds. Still, respect for the boldness. Oh, and the lemonade? Pure magic. Think La Michoacana vibes: sweet, and as refreshing as a dip in Los Filtros on a hot summer day. It’s like they bottled up a Mexican summer and poured it in your cup. So, should you try shugu? Heck yeah. It’s like a culinary love child of Japan, Mexico, and Texas, raised with a sprinkle of Chihuahua spice. Will it change your life? Probably not. But it’ll give you a story to tell—and an Uber Eats jingle stuck in your head.

Great flavor. They have many types of rice balls but also the authentic ones with few ingredients. They are not greasy, the one with shrimp has a lot of them, very tasty. They are in uber eats making it very convenient to order and they prepare your order exactly how you customized it. I definitely recommend this place!

Tried the rice balls from here for the first time and was disappointed. The rice ball was very much empty from inside. First and last.
