Al modar — Restaurant in Cholul

Cute local spot with a nice vibe and a view. Good coffee + chilaquiles. Usually one of our go-to’s.

I would have given 5 stars but one of the times we went, it was completely empty and we wanted to sit in the shade. The gentleman who was attending to us was adamant about us only being able to choose a table that had 2 chairs because we were 2 people. (All of which were in the sun)

Finally, I decided to get up and find someone else to ask if we could move and they ended up letting us. (Reminder: not a soul was there but us) Not sure what that was about? Kinda put a wrench in the experience.

Al Modar could become our favourite place to chill and relax in Cholul. The decor is stylish yet understated. The service was exceptional. When it became obvious that we didn't speak very much Spanish the owner/manager/a senior member of staff came to our assistance. She spoke excellent English, was friendly and very helpful making suggestions about local specialities that we may not have sampled before. She was even happy to help us improve our Spanish by answering some questions that had confusing us. Unfortunately the complete menu was not available as they had only been open for 10 days. We will be returning on a regular basis and wish Al Modar every success...

This is the perfect place to meet with friends and have dinner and drinks or to have a romantic dinner for two. It has two different vibes to choose from. You can choose the soft lighted patio or you can go upstairs to the rooftop with a gorgeous view of Cholul's picturesque church and beautiful sky. Service is excellent! Food is really good too.
