Short version: DO NOT EAT HERE.
Long version: My wife and I recently flew out of thePuerto Vallarta Int'l Airport. While waiting in the terminal, I was hungry. It was around 5pm, dinner time. I decided on two pieces of pizza and a soda from this establishment. We had been in an all-inclusive for most of the week and had not had to make many purchases, so the conversion in my head from the MXN on the menu to CAD or USD was a bit shaky. I was shocked that two pieces of pizza (one pepperoni and one ham and pineapple) and a small bottle of Diet Pepsi came out to the unconscionable amount of $542.50 MXN or $30.14 USD!
That is not inflation. That is not a "convenience" fee. That is absolute, bald-faced greed and robbery. Two slices and a soda should be, at most, $10. Make it $12-15 at rip-off airport prices. But $30?!
To add insult to injury, the pizza was junk! The toppings were skimpy, the sauce was flavourless, and the crust had no body or depth. The "famiglia" should be ashamed to be associated with this inferior, overpriced product that bears the honorable name of "pizza".
I wish I had read the MANY 1-star reviews for this restaurant on Google Maps before I had decided to eat there.
Besides that, in the many years of travelling my wife and I hope to have left to us, I will make a point of NEVER eating in a Famous Famiglia restaurant and actively discouraging those I know from doing so. I had never heard of this company before, so congratulations to them on not only failing to gain a customer but creating an observant and active adversary.
In contrast to the either outdated or fictional testimonial of Mr. Schwarzenegger on their menu, I'll...
Read moreInsanely Expensive Yes, this is an airport, but this expensive by airport standards. One slice of Hawaiian pizza was $217 MXN. At today's US Dollar exchange, that's $12.60 US.
A whole pepperoni is $733 MXN ($43.60 US) and a whole Hawaiian is $766 MXN ($44.50 US) at 18 Jan 2024 exchange rates. When the USD/MXN exchange rate peaked in 2022, their prices almost made sense for an airport.
The slice was average size and actually pretty decent. But pretty much any slice will taste unsatisfactory at those prices.
It's a blatant gringo cash grab, which is not a surprise, but I wish I hadn't of fallen for it. And I doubt it will change as the food options in the international gate area are always busy.
I would definitely try to grab food before security or the food court by the domestic gates if you must get food at the airport. Otherwise, bring...
Read moreI am still so shocked at how incredibly rude the lady at the till was to me. I was respectful and kind until she demanded a tip. I stood in line, I never sat down anywhere to eat and she kept insisting I give her a tip. I said no sorry, I tip when I sit at a restaurant, not to pick up fast food. She raised her voice to me and yelled, "Lady! You no listen to me! I say you pick tip amount!" , as she points to the interac device. I kindly said "no tip thank you." She took the payment and uttered under her breath in Spanish that I was a stupid American. I am Canadian, I speak 3 languages and I have 2 degrees. I was shocked. I have had enough of being treated like an ATM machine in this country (Mexico, PV). Management needs to educate their employees on positive customer service. And 40$ Canadian for a Stromboli, small bag of chips and a pop is...
