Our dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company in Puerto Vallarta’s Marina Vallarta was a highlight of our trip, thanks largely to our phenomenal waitress, Daphne. Nestled in the vibrant marina with a stunning ocean view, the restaurant’s lively Forrest Gump-themed atmosphere was brought to life by Daphne’s infectious enthusiasm and top-notch service. From the moment we sat down, Daphne greeted us with a cheerful “Shrimp, shrimp, and more shrimp!” that set the perfect tone. Her knowledge of the menu was impressive—she recommended the Shrimp Shack Mac & Cheese, a creamy, cheesy delight loaded with sautéed shrimp, and paired it with the chilled mango salsa from the Boat Size Bucket for a refreshing twist. Her suggestion to try the Blueberry Lemonade Spritzer was a hit, perfectly complementing the warm coastal evening. Daphne’s service was exceptional, balancing attentiveness with charm. She kept our group entertained with Forrest Gump quotes and trivia, like challenging us to name Bubba’s shrimp dishes from the movie, which had everyone laughing. Even as the restaurant buzzed with activity, she ensured our “Stop, Forrest, Stop” sign was answered promptly, keeping our drinks full and plates cleared. The only minor hiccup was a brief wait for our Forrest’s Favorite Chocolate Cake, but Daphne apologized sincerely and checked in to make sure we were happy, turning a small delay into a non-issue. The food at Bubba Gump was fresh and flavorful, with shrimp dishes stealing the show, but Daphne’s warmth and energy made the experience truly special. She treated us like family, making the Marina Vallarta location feel like a home away from home. If you’re dining at Bubba Gump in Puerto Vallarta, ask for Daphne—she’s an absolute star who deserves a 4.9/5 for making our night...
Read moreDuring a recent visit to Bubba Gump’s at the Puerto Vallarta airport, I experienced a disappointing dining experience. While I understand airport restaurants often charge premium prices, this visit felt particularly overpriced for what I received.
I ordered a cheeseburger with fries priced at $390 pesos, which seemed reasonable. However, the waitress asked if I wanted bacon on the burger, and I agreed without much thought—a mistake on my part. The burger, ordered well done, arrived severely overcooked and dry, which significantly detracted from the meal.
The shock came when I received the bill. I was charged an additional $150 pesos for two strips of bacon—nearly 40% of the burger’s original cost. This felt excessive and untransparent, as the price for the add-on was never disclosed beforehand.
Unfortunately, the service didn’t help improve the experience. While other tables seemed to receive attentive service, mine was slow and unfriendly. Perhaps I was unlucky, but it left me feeling neglected.
Advice: If you decide to dine here, be sure to ask about the cost of any suggested add-ons or upsells. While the food itself wasn’t impressive, transparency about pricing and more consistent service would go a long way toward making the experience feel less disappointing.
Overall, Bubba Gump’s at the PV airport was underwhelming, and I’m...
Read moreAww, Bubba Gump’s Shrimp Company… We had one on Maui but it sadly closed years ago. While the menu isn’t as copious as it used to be, this was the only roomy sit down restaurant near gate 7 at PVR.
ATMOSPHERE: Seating was quite plentiful and spacious for luggage-in-tow. The decor brought back fun memories we had at the oceanfront Lahaina location.
MENU: Sad to report that the Bucket O Boat Trash isn’t here either (if anywhere). But they did have shrimp in numerous preparations, burgers, sandwiches, ribs, poultry, ribs, dessert and drinks.
FOOD: Old Fashioned New England Clam Chowder (bowl) The bowl had good circumference but wasn’t very deep. The soup was creamy, perfectly seasoned, with a good amount of clams, potatoes and onions. Oyster crackers provided for the perfect topping and texture.
The spouse enjoyed and devoured his All American Cheeseburger with seasoned fries.
SERVICE: Host greeting was immediate and friendly.
Our male server was great. Food delivery time was quick. As is customary in Mexico, you have to ask for your check.
OVERALL: Not a bad last meal...
