Review of Districts Vegano MX: A Vegan Journey in Merida
Our day in Merida had been nothing short of epic – a mesmerizing journey through the ancient Mayan ruins of Uxmal followed by a thunderous storm-swim in a hidden jungle cenote. As the heavens guided us to our next destination, Districts Vegano MX, the city's number one haven for vegan pizza, our culinary adventure was about to reach new heights.
The Divine Sourdough
We were welcomed with the scent of freshly baked sourdough that had been masterfully fermented for over 48 hours, creating a dough so tender and soft that it seemed like a culinary work of art. The mere touch of it spoke of dedication and passion for the craft.
The El David: A Vegan Masterpiece
Our choice, the El David pizza, was a symphony of flavors that danced upon our palates. Each bite, a revelation. The velvety mozzarella, the house-made pepperoni, and the slices of ripe tomatoes came together in perfect harmony. It was as if the ingredients themselves had been chosen by the gods to unite in this culinary masterpiece.
La Ultima Cena: A Divine Creation
And then, La Ultima Cena, a pizza that captured the essence of Mexico with every bite. The pastor, sweet pineapple, fresh cilantro, and finely diced onions created a flavor explosion that transported us further into the Mayan realm. It was a dish worthy of celebration, and we couldn't help but be grateful for our birthdays being honored in such a special way.
A Sweet Vegan Finale: Gansito Reimagined
As the final touch to our exquisite meal, the chef prepared a vegan Gansito that redefined our dessert expectations. A chocolate-hard-covered cake, filled with a luscious jam that was a superior version of the beloved Mexican treat. It was a sweet finale that left us in awe of the culinary prowess at Districts Vegano MX.
The Perfect Vegan Michelada Pairing
To accompany this culinary journey, I savored a vegan Michelada, a masterful pairing that added a delightful touch of spice and tang to the meal. It was the ideal complement to the flavorful pizzas, enhancing the overall dining experience.
In all, our visit to Districts Vegano MX was a culinary journey that transcended expectations. The dedication to craft, the flavor profiles, the inventive dessert, and the perfectly paired Michelada all combined to create a dining experience that will forever linger in our hearts as a highlight of our time in Merida. Bravo to the culinary artisans who crafted this vegan...
Read moreDisappointed. I spend on average 3 nights per month in Merida for my work. I met the owner of this restaurant a while back when he overheard me in line at an OXXO talking to a friend about vegan restaurants in Merida. He introduced himself and told me about his pizza restaurant. I explained that the hotel I typically stay at is in the city center and that it’s not convenient for me to go to the restaurant location. He told me they can deliver to my hotel. I eventually decided to give it a try.
The result was that the pizza and salad arrived almost 1.5 hours after I ordered. The pizza was completely cold and there were no napkins or a fork to eat my salad with.
I sent a WhatsApp message to the restaurant. They blamed the delivery guy and said they don’t send forks for home delivery. They knew the order was for a hotel room! Common sense dictates the need for a fork. I understand that many restaurants outsource delivery, however, the quality of service is still the responsibility of the restaurant. I work in tourism and contract out to transportation companies. If a driver screws up, I still take responsibility and I try my best to make it up to my customer. I don’t simply blame the driver if a customer complains; even though the driver doesn’t directly work for me.
Additionally, both the pizza and the salad had an excessive amount of oil, in my opinion. But maybe some people prefer it that way. A cold oily pizza.
I really wanted to...
Read moreWe went twice this week. Great little restaurant off the beaten path, in Fracc. Montejo, near the Periferico. THey have a great choice of vegan pizzas, focaccias and deserts. We particularly liked the "Divina Trinidad" pizza, which has a blend of 3 vegan cheeses, and the "Mario Bros" vegan pizza which has vegan cheese, black olives and aragula. The crust is thin and fluffy. The pizza is one size only, mid size, which makes for 4 large slices and the price is very reasonable, about 130 pesos. They also have some yummy vegan deserts, we had the vegan carrot cake, super good. They have a dining room, and also deliver throughout Merida. We will come back at least once a week as they have a long list of different vegan pizzas and focaccias. I have had vegan pizzas in New York and Los Angeles, but never as...
