Was told this place would blow one’s mind and they definitely lived up to the anticipation. We sat outdoors party of 5 on a 55 degree night. The live musicians performing during dinner service were mood setting. The staff were quite attentive though I had to ask for a fork.
The menu is 2 pages of extraordinary art, with a chefs menu attached at the top right corner of the 2nd page.
Ordered for appetizers: sea bass empanadas (3 empanadas), baked marrow, scorpion taco & sautéed crickets come served in small cast iron skillet. The empanadas were very dry but the marrow was delicious and heavy, scorpion taco is adventurous and delicious. Ordered cocktails as well: grey goose and cranberry with lime, a shot of goose served in a glass of ice served with another glass of cranberry juice you pour yourself.
Main entree: grilled sea bass over a rich creamy mushroom risotto. The sea bass was cooked to perfection with a beautiful sear, mushroom risotto rich creamy and mesmerizing.
Decor: Two white swans roamed the green, while the peacocks slept in their area. I count 11 peacocks, impressive decor. Holiday decorations along the white walls, beautiful tablecloth tables, each table outside had a heater position above them, wood floors. Piano player playing sexy classical music throughout dinner service.
Added to my list of favorite restaurants around the world, look forward to coming back. I ate the scorpion on...
Read moreA must-stop in Mexico City
The restaurant is located in an Hacienda, a typical Mexican villa from the past century. The location is very large, with tables for everyone's taste: directly in the garden, in a quieter corner or directly next to the piano. Small and very large groups will find enough space here. Last but not least regarding the location, majestic peacocks are walking freely in the garden providing additional unique entertainment to the visitors.
Typical Mexican dishes are available and some more difficult to find specialities like gusano, the agave-plant worm, are also on the menu (a must try!). Everything is well prepared and well served. Desserts are simple yet delicious, the waiter can come with a pie & cake tray should the menu not be convincing enough.
Plus: the carajillo are excellent and shaked in front of the customer!
As suggested by the above, the service is excellent. It is the top of the top I have experienced in any restaurant so far.
This hacienda is definitely a place to visit and will serve as an immersion into the Mexican culture. Small groups are advised to visit between Monday to Friday as larger groups and some times smalls events (birthdays etc) will take place on the weekend and the place might get...
Read moreI want to begin by saying I am a tourist and am visiting a friend who lives close by. I came here alone the first day and told the staff that my Spanish was not very good to see how they would treat foreigners. I always like to see whether the service is the same or whether they treat people differently because they don’t speak the language well.
I was given a waitress who spoke english and someone took my order. The food was good quality and I did not have any complaints.
When I received the bill, I noticed that they had charged me more than what it said on the menu but I did not say anything even though I knew it was incorrect. I do think it is wrong because the price is the price & it should not matter whether you are a tourist or not.
Please keep this in mind when visiting & make sure that they do not overcharge you for food if you do not speak the language well. The managers will take advantage of you and charge you...
