Dear Yoshiaki,
I am writing this message to you because yesterday, I visited one of your branches, Ikkyu. From the beginning, I was taken on a journey, from reading your story to the moment I was handed a well-chilled beer. However, things started to fall apart when the waitress had no idea about your concept or what was being sold in your restaurant, and the menu was confusing to her. She even excused herself, saying she knew nothing about it, and had to ask another waiter for help. From that moment, I knew something was going to go wrong, and I wasn't mistaken. The appetizers arrived after the main course and were poorly prepared, lacking distinctive flavor and tasting like they had been stored in a refrigerator.
But that wasn't all. When I received my meal—simple noodles with meat and vegetables—things got worse. Not only did the dish fall short of the photo in the menu, but the meat was almost nonexistent, tasted old and flavorless, and made me think it was made from leftovers. The overall taste of the dish was far from surprising; it lacked character and was unbearable. The flavor was so unpleasant that I couldn't tell if it was Japanese or Mexican, or something else entirely, as neither experience made me feel any spark or elevation. I won't even mention my companion's experience, as they had no choice but to say it was okay.
This entire experience was a collection of discomfort and bad experiences. We even considered leaving without paying the bill, but we are not that kind of people. What I mean is that it was such a bad experience that it made me think of doing something so bad. I hope you take this into account and train your staff so they can express the feeling you want to project and sell, what you have conceptualized in your mind as a restaurant of someone capable of...
Read moreI was really disappointed with the food here.
I ordered the oolong tea, and it tasted like plain water — even worse than a basic tea bag I use at home. Then came the tempura mixto, and I was surprised (in a bad way) — they used a type of panko that completely ruined it. Tempura is supposed to be airy and crunchy, but the shrimp was super chewy and unpleasant. Definitely not recommended. Next was the shoyu ramen. The noodles were overcooked, the broth tasted only like dashi — no depth, no flavor, no layers. Honestly, I would have preferred instant noodles. The chashu was super dry, and the egg was just a regular boiled egg, definitely not the 味玉 you expect in a proper ramen.
I came in hungry, ordered two dishes, and left still feeling hungry because nothing was appetizing. This meal completely...
Read moreThe kushiage, gyudon, nigiri were good. However, the gyoza was improperly made and overcooked and the yakisoba with shrimp was horrible.
While the restaurant claims to serve authentic Japanese food, the menu is excessively large and they should focus on what they are best at instead of trying to do everything instead of ruining their own claims. Also, there is no reason to offer half orders of so many dishes.
The wait staff appears poorly trained/inexperienced and don't seem to have a good understanding of the menu.
I will probably return but likely stick to simple rice or fried dishes to not risk such disappointment.
There is lots of room for...
