Food is average and would probably not survive more than a few weeks in a city with a decent food scene. The owner is also beyond arrogant, telling me that he would not cook the gluten free pasta I brought (I was still going to pay full price) to substitute the cheap nothing-special boxed spaghetti that they serve. The excuse was that he didn’t want to replace the pasta water 🙄 (which is bad cooking practice but I was still fine with as I was just intolerant and not celiac). He goes on to proudly declare that he ALWAYS rejects the same request made by gluten-intolerant/celiac people and has done so countless times. Not only that, he proceeds to get aggressive and incredibly rude about it (following me back to my table after I had given in to his refusal, and picking an argument about it after we had effectively ended the conversation).
So if you’re gluten-free or celiac don’t even bother with this place. And if you believe in tolerance and basic human consideration, I also recommend not bothering with this place. This attitude is clearly based on the defense of his own ego, with the comfort of his patrons taking a VERY back seat. Something that is both laughable and appalling for a restaurant at this level of mediocrity. I’m sorry obnoxious, insecure owner, I know you’re trying to channel some curmudgeonly old trattoria owner who makes no food exceptions for anyone, but it’s 2022 now and the world is trying to open itself to be more accepting of others (particularly when it comes at VERY little cost). Please put your complex aside and realize that you are not Osteria Francescana - which incidentally DOES accommodate dietary...
Read moreThis was the rudest treatment I have ever had from a restaurant. I was in PE with a good friend visiting from Europe and was super excited to try this place with her. We arrived at the restaurant and stood at the entrance for a couple minutes, the owner and a server were right across from us at the counter but nobody came up to us nor did they even acknowledge us or ask us to wait. After a while I spoke up and said do we walk in and sit? And the server said no but nothing else, meanwhile the owner turned to her and said "tell them to wait" literally acting as if we were not there right in front of him and we continued to be ignored. People were leaving the restaurant and still no one even spoke a word or came up to us so we just left. I have no issues if the place was booked or they were short-staffed, but the fact that we were not even acknowledged, completely ignored and just left standing there while the owner spoke about us as if we weren't right in front of him is unacceptable Safe to say I didn't return and don't plan on doing so, truly the worst service I have ever...
Read moreI’ve been going to Puerto for the last few years, and I must say I’ve developed feelings towards this place. It’s just so good. Every dish on the menu is served in generous portions and high quality ingredients. Classic, authentic Italian, it’s quite clear that these guys know what they are doing. My favorite meal: calamari fritti as a starter, spaghetti frutti di mare and then tiramisu. Best tiramisu I’ve ever tried! They also have delicious burgers and fish tacos. The staff is very nice and friendly, really efficient and always greet us with a smile. Alivo is the hidden gem of La Punta, cute little place...
