During my recent stay at the Royalton Resort in Cancun, I decided to check out Fuentes, an on-site restaurant that offers a dinner show experience. While the food was passable, I found the overall show to be overly cheesy and reminiscent of a low-quality game show.
The menu offered a decent variety of dishes, but the execution fell short of expectations. While some items were decently prepared, others lacked the finesse and flavor one would hope for in a restaurant of this caliber.
The production felt amateurish and forced, resembling a subpar game show rather than an engaging performance. The attempts at humor and audience participation came across as contrived, and the overall experience felt forced and lacking in authenticity.
One of the major drawbacks was the quality of the screens used during the show. They appeared outdated and had poor image quality, making it difficult to see what was happening on stage. The menu is fixed and changes regularly. Each menu is cooked live in front of the diners by a chef who is probably well known in the USA, Canada or Mexico but being from the UK we didn't recognise them.
There is great interaction between the chef, the sommelier and the musician which adds to the fun.
The service is impeccable and on the two occasions we ate there during our holiday we found the food to be delicious.

Read moreChange of pace on the usual dinner. While staying g at the casitas we did the culinary theater. It was an extra 10p.p to book a table. I expect food and wine pairings for this event. When we got there it was another 45. Pp for the wine. We had a top notch champagne, a Mexican beer, 3 whites and a red. All paired great with the dishes. Oh and a drink upon arrival. Not sure what it was but it was light and fruity. All recipes were easy enough to duplicate at home and seemingly quick to prepare. They should give you a recipe card. Host, chef, and musical entertainment were all great. Unique experience...
