Sonora Prime Metepec — Restaurant in State of Mexico

We brought our triplets (just turning 4 years old) and they had a great time. There is a kids area, with trained staff who keep the younger kids well entertained! There is no kid's menu, so prepare for buying an adult meal and having it divided into multiple plates for your gang. Sounds okay, thus far, right? And, the service was pretty fair, too. HOWEVER, here comes the stunner. The menus only show the "other" foodstuffs, but not the steaks - which are not listed anywhere...the server comes by the table and shows you examples of the cuts. Then, of course, unless you have eaten there before, you don't think to ask the prices.. we assume, in Metepec Mexico, in an otherwise $$ price range menu, the steaks couldn't possibly cost more than $35 to $50 USD, for their best. WRONG!!! We decided to split one steak between the two of us, because we weren't that hungry, and (after all) it's the lunch hour for Mexico (4pm). The steak was fine (not, "OMIGOD")... and we are our fill with some left over. We were favorably impressed...until the bill arrived: more than 4400 pesos, which is around $250.00!!! The major cost: our one steak cost us 3100 pesos, which is ~$165.00!!! Holy cow! Literally... I did a little search of the most expensive steaks in the US, and found a "top 15 most expensive " list. Our steak was tied with #2 most expensive...and, we are in Metepec Me6, not New York City. Buyer beware!!! This is NOT a good thing, and our server ought to have advised us as to the price BEFORE we ordered. Overall experience for our daughters, 4 stars. For us, 2 stars...which is how we arrived at 3...

Fui hace tiempo a ver el barça Madrid 4-0... una muy buena experiencia. Como iba con el mod de partido me comí una hamburguesa y me quedé con las ganas de disfrutar de las carnes. Me dije que antes de irme de México volvería para disfrutar de sus carnes, y pues... mal... y no porque la carne no fuera sabrosa ni estuviese mal hecha. Todo lo contrario. Pero mi experiencia ha sido nefasta. Primero empezamos, me preguntan alergias: lácteos y derivados. Me traen los frijoles: con queso. Mal. Le indico si puede cambiarlo y me dice que no, que así vienen (cuando vine a ver el partido solo si me lo cambiaron, así que algo no cuadra). Ya me pierdo una experiencia, y con una pregunta inicial sin sentido, pues lo primero que me traen: alergico. Seguimos a ver si mejora, pero ya anticipo que no. Vamos a lo que venimos, esa carne! Soy muy sencillo pidiendo: carne de sabor suave, con grasa. Me recomiendan la parte de arriba del Rib eye, pero no tienen, por lo que el chef me recomienda el corazón del Rib eye. Y yo que se, aquí le dais los nombres de los yankies a las cosas, a saber que es, con mi solicitud clara y la recomendación del chef, que mas que el no sabré, he confiado...pues me traen un señor pedazo de carne, bien bonito, al punto como lo quería, pero sin ni un pedazito de grasa... pura carne... pues obviamente no he podido disfrutar como quería. Empezamos mal, y terminamos peor. Total que pagué 1100 pesos por un pedazo de carne que no quería y que no se parecía en nada a lo que pedí que me recomendaran. En fin, que me voy de México la semana que viene y me quería llevar un caprichito, y me llevo una desilusión nada digna de lo que podríamos esperar de un sitio así. Lo peor es que el camarero ha venido a preguntar, le he dicho exactamente esto, que la carne no es lo que pedí, y se echa las manos a la cabeza y se va... podría haber ofrecido cambiarlo, pero no... lamentable. Un 10 la primera experiencia, un 1 la segunda... muy mal todo, lamentable servicio. Y me reitero, no se para que preguntan lo de los alérgicos, que de regalo nos traen unos churros con más lácteos que no puedo tomar. El día que quiera una hamburguesa puede que vuelva si estoy en México, lo dudo, pero puede, pero carne? Me voy a la carnicería y pido al hotel que me dejen la plancha un rato, que viviré una experiencia mucho mejor y...

Service was good, meat not at all...

Had a New York steak medium, temperature was ok, flavor plain good, tenderness non existent...

Serve on a hot skillet, sizzling like crazy splattered fat all over table and me...

The complimentary beans, chips and salsa very good as well as my side of spinachs with cream.

In all fairness, even not being overly expensive, I paid too much for what I got...

Knives were dull, had two different ones, couldn't even cut my grilled onions, had to fight with the steak...

Hope this was just a bad night, place is well recommended, but not planning to come...
