Expectations were heightened since the very moment we arrived and the first thing staff did was ask whether we had a reservation or not rather than saying hi. Anyway, no rudeness yet not the friendliest way to welcome you. Once we confirmed we did have a reservation, staff radioed the restaurant to let them know we had arrived so they could have our table ready and welcome us at the door. Top notch!!! Unfortunately, once we were shown to our table, service didn’t feel in consonance with the arrival. The waiters were friendly but careless and distracted; like when pouring coffee and spilling it or when not remembering what we asked them for; missing napkins, cutlery, and cups for coffee.
Regarding food, it was very good with still some room for being exceptional. Let’s not forget we’re talking about Merida and Angsana here, a destination that’s rapidly becoming a foodie capital and a high-end hospitality brand. Especially disappointing were the HEINZ maple-flavored syrup sachets that were brought to accompany the pancakes we ordered!!! Overall, the menu is limited but varied, with bits and pieces of international, Mexican, and local cuisine; so most likely there will be something for everyone.
What certainly does not disappoint is the property, which by the way is doable on wheelchair -though some improvements may be needed at the restrooms. Premises are beautifully preserved; the greenness of the grass is flawless and gorgeous; relaxation is the mantra of the whole place; and the fact that Xcanatun is within a 20-minute drive from downtown Merida makes the hacienda even more appealing.
Without hesitation I would recommend and go back to this place, with somehow lowered...
Read moreFamily came over to visit us in Merida and wanted to take them to a nice restaurant and show them the beautiful hacienda. We made a reservation for 6 the day before and we walked in and got a table inside the restaurant. We wanted garden but they said no tables available even though we could see that tables were open. So as we sat down the table was not ready. No silverware on table and the waiter came over with coffee. So enough on carafe for only 3 coffees. No sugar cream or anything to stir it. As we waited patiently other waiter came over to give us silverware thats like after 20 min. Other waiter came to refill our coffee and its already cold and then another 15 min for refill and replacement of cold coffee. After waiting this long for just coffee we got orders of breakfast and the food was not as expected. For a fancy restaurant that they want to portray definitely not the case. I was embarrassed that i took my family there to eat. Since it was totally not what i was expecting. Other patrons got served way before us and they sat after us. They might be people staying at the hotel. 45 min to finally get our meals with cold coffee is not good. I would not...
Read moreMy experience at Casa de Piedra Restaurant - Hacienda Xcanatun was disappointing.
Despite a friendly reception, the choice of a table in the dark lounge instead of the bright garden at 8 am was perplexing. The refusal to assign tables outdoors, citing future reservations, seemed unjustified as the place was practically empty. The suggestion of high bar tables as the only option fell short of our expectations. Surprisingly, when speaking to the manager, we were informed that those tables did not belong to the restaurant, an explanation that was hard to believe. The lack of flexibility and customer service left much to be desired, making it not recommended for those seeking a quality and exclusive...
