My burger was decent, but after three tries they still could not get my wife's order right. The third attempt was more like shoe leather than food, and it was still on our check even though she could not eat a bite.
The waitress acted like she could not understand my Spanish, though the manager understood it perfectly well, repeated what I said verbatim, and she understood that. My Spanish is not perfect, but I can generally communicate very effectively, even having done TV interviews in Spanish.
The manager did not even bother to check on us after the second attempt, nor did he ever come back after that. We asked to have her order removed from the bill and they removed it.
We also asked for a proper factura, which they are required by law to give. They could not do it that night, they said, so they told us they would send it via email, which they never did.
Why would we ever go back to Viejo when there are so many better places that truly appreciate your business and pride themselves on providing quality?
My wife and I both have worked in the restaurant business for years, so we understand the challenges there can be. We also love everything from little hole in the wall places to fine dining, so we are not...
Read moreDO NOT EAT HERE! Food and service have really gone down! We took our large family and were given the worst service. Not even a welcome or smile. We noticed that our waiter was stoic with other tables as well. Food took A LONG TIME to come out, for other tables and to go orders. The very few customers that were there complained about the time and quality of food that was prepared. As someone who has been going to Yucatán all my life, I will never step foot in this establishment. After asking and complaining about our order the waiter who looked like an extra on the movie set from Apocolypto, finally smiled and walked away. We canceled our order and will never recommend such a terrible place. We've eaten here before and drove from Merida with family that came from California who had not eaten after a long flight. It is unfortunate that their first impression was a place that did not care about customer service or quality of food, the appetizers have also gone down. Eat at your own risk, there is a reason this place is empty and other...
Read moreWent and saw Stepp on It play at Viejo Bar. Enjoyed watching our favorite local bands there. Viejo was running a special of four beers and nachos for 199 pesos, it was a killer deal, I would take advantage of that again. They have added toilet seats in the women's bathroom which is also a plus for some. My only complaint would be the waiter who served us. I don't know his name (he had a man bun), but he seemed totally disinterested in providing good service, never checking if we needed anything during our visit; they could definitely make more money with interested, engaged messeros, but whatever. We'll still go back to watch Stepp on It, just no other times just due to the...
