What was supposed to be a pleasant outing for my wife, her mother, and our two kids turned into a frustrating and disheartening encounter that reflects a broader issue with customer service ethics in MANY Moroccan businesses.

The intention was simple: enjoy some ice cream and drinks in a scenic location. However, my mother-in-law asked for unsweetened tea and was instead served a hot coffee, priced at 23 dirhams. While the amount itself is not the issue, the principle is. The order was wrong, untouched, and should have been returned with no charge — a basic standard in any respectable hospitality setting. Instead, the staff DID NOT remove it from the bill.

To make matters worse, there was a clear communication gap. The server did not speak Darija, which made resolving the issue even more difficult. At the cashier, when my mother-in-law brought this up, she was told the waiter had “gone somewhere” — an obvious brush-off — and was still charged for the mistaken item. This kind of behavior is not just unprofessional; it’s dishonest.

You claim to avoid losing money, yet you're doing so at the expense of honesty, proper service, and customer trust. In the long run, that’s what will cost you the most.

Shockingly, not only did he fail to offer any apology, but he also kept us waiting for an unreasonable amount of time, only to return without a new juice or any explanation.

Frustrated by this lack of attentiveness, we sought help from another staff member, but he mysteriously vanished, leaving us to question the level of professionalism within the establishment. A third person, upon being approached, promised to assist us but never followed through. It seemed as though the entire staff was actively avoiding the situation, which is unacceptable when dealing with such a serious issue.

Eventually, I had no choice but to escalate the matter to the manager, hoping for a resolution. However, my encounter with the manager proved to be just as disheartening. To my surprise, he claimed not to be present during the incident, further raising doubts about the management's commitment to maintaining food safety standards.
