A friend from Agadir living in Tangier invited me to travel with him to Tetouan. About eight miles from Tetouan there is the quiet beachfront town of Martil, Morocco. He parked the car in a parking lot and asked the attendant to wash it. Then we asked several people where there was a nearby fish restaurant and we ended up at Restaurant Khay Ahmed, facing the beach.
There were only a few tables outside, but we sat there because of the direct beach view, no more than 30 meters in front us. There were few cars so it was quiet and the weather in early March was 22 degrees and mostly sunny.
After waiting for five minutes at our plastic table and not particularly comfortable plastic chairs, the waiter brought menus and as a first course we each chose salads: Russian Salad and a Moroccan Salad, each with tuna. I was impressed with the generous size. The waiter brought a large bottle of water and two glasses, which were not dried, some tissues and a basket of bread, and finally some mayonnaise and ketchup.
We wanted fish, so my friend asked the waiter for Saint Pierre but none was available so he had a platter of Merlan and cooked medium-sized shrimp in the shells. I ordered shrimp pil-pil in a garlic-tomato sauce. When our food arrived, I thought mine delicious but decided there could have been more shrimp, and my friend said his Merlan was not all fresh as the color was changing.
My friend from Agadir said his shrimp in the shell was good, however, but he gave a few scraps of bad fish to one of several stray cats that passed our table and the cat ate it. On a positive note, the French fries served on a single plate were warm, crispy and tasty.
Before leaving, I used the toilet and noted it was not clean with no working light, no toilet seat, and there was a lot of water on the floor.
Inside, this very simple restaurant I noted it was long and narrow with another back entrance, and there were a dozen people sitting at half a dozen tables. But the place lacks any real decor and looks cheap... certainly not elegant dining.
Personally, I would look for a better fish restaurant in Martil as this was a very disappointing experience.
My friend told the waiter he would never return there as he was not happy with his bad fish. And the waiter did not receive even a...
Read moreTitle: Terrible Experience - Avoid This Restaurant (Khay Ahmed, Martil Tetouan) food poisoning. 🤮🤮🤮‼️‼️‼️‼️🚨
I had an absolutely awful experience at Khay Ahmed in Martil Tetouan. I ordered the pil pil, friture spéciale, and salade marocaine, and everything was shockingly bad. The meal quality was subpar, to say the least.
Not only was the food terrible, but the service was equally appalling. They even served me water that tasted like it came from the toilet. As soon as I got home, I started vomiting uncontrollably and suffered from severe diarrhea and cold fevers. The night was excruciatingly painful, and I had to visit a hospital at 5 am in the morning.
The medical professionals confirmed that it was indeed food intoxication, and I was not alone in this unfortunate experience. Many others had fallen victim to the same situation at this restaurant. The fish was clearly old and of poor quality.
I strongly advise everyone to steer clear of this restaurant. Even if it appears to be busy, the quality and hygiene are severely lacking. The entire experience was not only unpleasant but also dangerous for my health. Please take care of yourself and go somewhere else where you can enjoy a safe and pleasant meal.
My intention in writing this review is to warn others from going through what I had to endure. It's important that people know the truth about this place and avoid the potential health risks associated with...
