Tonight my family and I made our one and only visit to Cafe Chamalia in Wilaya. I truly wanted to like this new cafe. The cute decor features a Northern Moroccan theme with eye-catching chechia-styled parasols on the patio and comfortable seating. Aesthetically, everything appeared well kept - the tables nicely arranged, the plants neatly trimmed, and the floors sparkled.

Sadly, the service was terrible, even by Tetouan standards. I say this as someone who has lived in the city for almost four years now. We waited less than ten minutes until a table freed up when another guest offered it as we were about to leave. In the ten minutes after we had seated ourselves, none of the three servers even bothered to acknowledge us, let alone clear the table or leave menus. We flagged a server down, who then called to his colleague, our server, who responded with an audible "ouf" and a face that clearly indicated that it was too much trouble for him to do the basics of his job.

After another ten minutes of waiting, I went to the indoor station and spoke with a young man who identified himself as the manager. When I explained the situation, he was equally apathetic and tried excuse the experience by saying we had "just been in the restaurant looking around." I exclaimed, "Twenty minutes ago!"

There was no attempt to save our experience as first time customers. One would expect that as a new business trying to establish a good reputation, the management would use standard practices to smooth over a rough start, but that was not the case. Instead of the manager simply handling the situation, he and the servers stared blankly at each other preparing to cast blame on one another. My intention in approaching the manager was simply acknowledgment that service was not being rendered at all, and to rectify the situation so my family and I could order and enjoy some drinks. Nothing too complicated, I think.

Appalled at the utter lack of concern for patrons (apparently another customer was simultaneously complaining about the pathetic coffee she had been served), I told the so-called manager that we were leaving, and their service earned them a double zero as far as we were concerned. As a former co-manager of a cafe in Tetouan, I hope these folks wake up and rethink their general approach to customers and staff. If not, I don't think this cafe will...

The worst service ever 🚨

The place is beautiful and had its charm and aesthetics, however ! The service is below 0.

First we had to wait over 30min to a waiter to just give us menus. Another 20min to take our order. 47min to serve us simple breakfast. A friend asked for his egg to be anything but scrambled in his order. The waiter acted rude and said sure, then he got his order with the 1 thing he asked not to bring, after asking the waiter this is the only thing i asked for, the waiter then started responding aggressively with attitude almost having a fight with us, the second time our order had come later we took another order for our coming friend on her way. The order were took by a waitress this time, we waited literally 44min for a « crepe ». We again asked the rude waiter about the order if its still late to cancel it and to pay for the rest, the waiter here snapped on us and we had to ask for a manager or someone to handle this as it were going to be a fight. I dont remember the waiter name i think yassin or sth similar. the overall experience was horrible! And mind you, we are not even tourists or travelers. So this attitude applies on wether an native or a stranger. For a trash low quality menu design to low service and 0 hospitality. And the waiters seem to work out of his consent! I only give the 1 star for the decoration. Everything else...

Stoere mannen lopen ook gewoon weg he.

I was here in August and had a very bad experience. I wanted to order a fish fry, but the waiter advised against it because they use frozen fish for this and not fresh fish. I asked if that was also the case with the seafood salad. He said it was good, they did use fresh fish for this. A bit of a strange explanation. So I ordered the seafood salad. I took one bite of the calamari and it tasted rotten. I told the waiter that I would not eat it. The waiter takes the salad away and I looked at the menu to order something else. The manager comes by angrily with the salad in his hands and asks in an arrogant tone what is wrong with the salad. Supposedly they use fresh fish. I have eaten a lot of calamari in my life, it was not fresh, rather rotten. After the unprofessional arrogant behavior of the manager, I did not even feel like ordering anything else. I strongly advise against this restaurant in the summer. It is too crowded, music is too loud, food is very bad and they also allow themselves to be arrogant towards the customers, because they have enough customers in the summer. Stop supporting such arrogance towards the customer.

I am very dissapointed in this restaurant. I tried to like it, I tried hard .. but I cannot talk this straight. The ambiance is very nice, nice decorations and that’s where it stops. The food was very mediocre. I took the breakfast. I was expection something very nice since they are so much about Chamal and the decoration is so nice. I swear I eat better at a local cafe. The bissara was watery and tasted like garlic. How is it possible for bissara to not taste like cumin. The cheese and ham were thin as paper and looked like they’ve been drying out. Service was so slow. Bees everywhere in my marmalade in my bissara, on me, around me. Atay was watery not much flavor. And to go to the bathroom you need to walk the whole restaurant and their marketing shop just to wash your hands. Perfect example of wanting a lot of money but not investing in quality. I feel scammed and got ripped of because of the “packaging”. I won’t be back. It’s a tourist trap.
