Read moreI was in Pokhara for two days and was seriously craving aloo tama. After searching online, I found a restaurant named Newari Bhoj and decided to give it a try. When I asked if they had tama, they confirmed they did, so we went in, hoping for a satisfying meal.
We ordered a veg thali and started eating. The food itself was good, but the service was painfully slow. At one point, we asked for additional bhatta (roasted soybeans) and mula ko achar (Nepali style radish pickle), but to our surprise, they told us it was already finished. It was only 11:30 AM. How can a Newari restaurant run out of such basic side dishes so early in the day? That was already disappointing, but what made the experience worse was the attitude of the staffs and completely unbothered.
Then came the payment issue. By mistake, we ended up paying twice. When we realized this and requested a refund, the staff told us they had to call the manager or the owner (we weren’t sure who exactly). We asked how they would process the refund, if they needed our details or bank information, but the response we got was shockingly rude. One of the staff members, in a loud and dismissive tone, said, “Maile call garera k sodhne?” (What am I even supposed to ask if I call?).
At that point, we had had enough. The food may have been decent, but the staff’s rude behavior and the frustrating service completely ruined the experience. I honestly do not recommend going to Newari Bhoj in Pokhara. There are plenty of other places where you can get good Newari food without having to deal with such...
Read moreNewari Bhoj is a restaurant that truly captures the essence of Newari cuisine. I had the pleasure of trying their signature dish, Yomari, which is made from a soft rice flour dough. The dough is skillfully shaped into a cup-like structure and filled with a delectable mixture of Chaku, a sweet brown paste, along with coconut dust and Khuwa. The flavors and textures blend perfectly, creating a delightful treat. I also had the opportunity to savor Sapu Mhicha, a flavorsome dish prepared from buffalo bone marrow. The soft, juicy, and chewy texture of the dish was absolutely delightful. Chhoyela, another specialty, was a heavenly delight for meat lovers. The smoky aroma and tender meat cooked over burning straw made it truly irresistible. To conclude the meal, I indulged in Juju Dhau, a traditional Newari dessert made from yogurt. Its creamy and refreshing taste provided a perfect ending to the feast. The restaurant not only offers a range of authentic Newari dishes but also creates a warm and inviting ambiance. The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. If you're seeking an authentic taste of Newari cuisine, Newari Bhoj is a...
