Superb sushi for a Superb price!
Upon entrance we are welcomed by a nice young lady opening the door for us and helping us find our table. Since we had kids with us, we were suggested to be seated near the kids play area, which was a good idea. The only minor downside of that was there was a very cold draft near there because of the ventilation systems, so it was a bit cold, but this was easily remedied by putting on some extra clothes. We were told we could move tables if we so desired.
The outside of the building is dated. However on the inside its warm, tidy and clean. Its well decorated, not overdone, not cramped and generally quite enjoyable. Also only slight downside which irked me personally, was the fact they had 1 piano song on repeat the whole night. After hearing it for the 15th time, it got slightly on my nerves, but i forgot to tell them to vary their background music before we left. So don't take this the wrong way, its still a very enjoyable place to visit.
Staff was helpful, friendly and very hospitable. The owner came to our table multiple times to ask if everything was satisfactory and if not, if we could share our suggestions so they could improve their service for future visits. We als felt the suggestions we gave were immediately followed and next rounds of food we ordered were also immediately improved.
On a multicultural side note, another thing i personally didn't like was the fact a lady on staff was wearing religious items (burka). We are in the Netherlands, a country with mostly christian values and if you feel the need to show you are of a different religion with different values, you should do that privately. Do not confront others with it please. This is probably something the owners should decide on, but for me the was a slight no-go. Also the service of this lady was in my eyes quite inexperienced. Friendly... but needed some work. She seemed very shy. When you work with people, shy isn't something that works well. Practice your people skills. Make a little talk with your guests, most of them will enjoy this and it will work towards getting more positive reviews and returning customers.
As for ordering food: They use a tablet with a digital menu here. You can order 5 dishes, per person. However there is only 1 tablet, so either you take turns, or you tell someone else to order for you. Which is not something everyone will like. Especially with larger groups, it would be good if they used multiple tablets per table, not sure this is done. Also another little issue i have with this system is that there is an ordering timer. Since we had kids with us, which were very active and thirsty, we noticed this timer would prevent us from ordering drinks in between rounds. We were not told if it was even possible to order drinks while this timer was on cool down and staff visiting the table did not take separate drinks orders, which was also a slight negative. But other than that, the ordering system worked great. There were no mistakes (well 1, but that was immediately corrected) in what we ordered. and the 10 minute cool down between orders was definitely not an issue. All food was delivered promptly without much waiting. However... During the weekends, you should expect longer waiting times because of the restaurant being more busy. I've heard stories from people waiting up to 30 minutes per round of ordering... If you don't like to wait on your food, avoid the weekends and visit Mondays thru Thursdays.
All the negative things aside, im still awarding 5 stars, because the food was simply stunning. The sushi rice was generally great, only once i had overcooked rice. The toppings are in great proportion to the amount of rice, unlike some other restaurants who try to fill their guests with excessive amounts of rice. They don't do that here. The fish (salmon, tuna etc) was fresh, tasty and definitely a plus. Lots of variations. Nothing overly salted (to make customers drink more).
Yea, i'm impressed. And will definitely return for another visit with friends...
Read moreThe food quality is good, except from some dishes being filled up with a little too much rice, which causes getting full really quick.
The tables are also not very far apart, which makes it feel like you're sitting together with the neighbor tables and that also takes away the nice feeling of having relaxed dinner. The tables are so close my girlfriend could understand the conversation people next us were having over our own...
