Brouwcafé de Molen — Restaurant in Bodegraven-Reeuwijk

(Sept 2016) For me the best way to assess a visit to De Molen is to look at the whole journey. So for me this means a comfortable 1hr train trip from Amsterdam Central with a change at Utrecht (10.50 euro each way) and a stroll through the very calm and very very quiet (and almost quaint) streets of Bodegraven. In some ways the brewery cafe is a little unremarkable (ok save for the windmill!!) but attentive friendly service and high quality tap list provide the cream. 20 or so taps with De Molen making up a little over half but the remainder very carefully chosen. Nothing is ’cheap’ and my 6 beers cutting across the whole range cost 26 euro but in the context of the quality completely acceptable. Bar snacks were filling and very fairly priced. Great place!! Beer of De Molen Brewery is the best in Netherlands and EU (if talk about Imperial stouts and other strong stuff) Second time here. This year service was more warm then last year. Thanks to lady who served me. Everything was perfect!

Last year was more bad - guy with mohawk haircut(works here so far) was very nervous and I feel like he was very busy to serve me. Fantastic selection of beers. Some is made around the corner but they also have some other interesting international beers. They have a very big outside seating area with a great view on the windmill. The food is also very nice. A special recommendation is the beermustardsoup. Not for everyone, definitely not if you don’t like mustard but I love it and it’s very local. I’ve had mustard soup in Groningen but never with beer and chicken.
