El Bigote Mexican Kitchen — Restaurant in Bonaire

This little gem was one we somehow missed on our last visit to Bonaire. But no more! Make reservations - they get busy, even in the “off season.” If you are from the U.S., this is NOT your neighborhood “Mexican” restaurant! No cheap cheese dip or refried beans that look already digested (IYKYK). It’s a little ou-of-the way spot a block off the main drag just north of midtown Kralendjik, with open-air seating, but shaded except a couple of high tops. Cute atmosphere with a few of “Day of the Dead” paintings on the walls. Three of us visited on a Thursday night in late August. We were greeted cheerfully by the server with a cold bottle of water - the first one is free, after that, you pay. The menu is small, but there are also daily specials which the server promptly announced. Husband had chicken enchiladas with both red and cheese sauce. He loved it! Generous portion, plenty of chicken. I tasted a bite of the chicken - it tasted a bit gristly and strange to me, but my husband enjoyed it! Our son ordered the pulled pork burrito. It was a generous burrito, but not the “big as your head” portion found in the States. But the flavor was ON POINT. Besides being generously stuffed with the pork, it is covered in cheese then broiled - cheesy goodness! Served with roasted potato wedges topped with a bit of crème fraiche, and a nice side of vegetables (zucchini, green beans and squash), which seem to be hard to find elsewhere on the island. I ordered the beef barbacoa. I am pretty sure if I had asked for the chef, an abuela would have appeared, because this was quite possibly the most lovingly-prepared dish I have ever had! Two flour shells STUFFED with big chunks of tender beef roasted with chorizo and tomato broth, topped with cojito cheese, served with the roasted potatoes and vegetables also. Before our dishes arrived, a flight of various house-made sauces appeared on the table, including guacamole, salsa, sour cream, chimmichurri and pico, as well as a generous cucumber, tomato and onion salad we could add to our plates, along with a mildly spicy pepper relish that oozed oil and warm spices. My husband has not been impressed with the food scene in Bonaire our last couple of visits, especially with the price vs. value. El Bigote is pricier than U.S. Mexican fare, but the quality and love in this cooking...

What a great experience we had at El Bigote. Dinner was excellent. Authentic mexican food. Very fresh cocktails. Love the decoration of the restaurant, very authentic. Staying on Bonaire for a week i regret not going here sooner. They also have mexican beers on the menu that I would have loved to try out. One of the owners suggested to try a special pepper sauce. Loved it and you can see that the people that run this place are enthousiastic about food and making sure their visitors enjoy the great taste of the food they serve. We also had a lovely cake dessert from which i could tell it was perfect. They really care about quality and authenticity. We went for dinner every night here at Bonaire and El Bigote has become our nr 1 favorite! Don 't leave Bonaire without visiting...

Zusätzliche Bewertung für El Bigote Kralendijk: Immer noch top, auch 3 Jahre später! Februar 2025

Drei Jahre nach unserem ersten Besuch bei El Bigote Kralendijk können wir mit Freude sagen, dass das Restaurant immer noch ein echter Geheimtipp ist! Die Qualität des Essens und der Service ist weiterhin herausragend.

Das Team um Derk, Harrie, Okke und Dante hat nichts von seiner Begeisterung und Hingabe verloren. Man merkt sofort, dass jeder hier mit Leidenschaft arbeitet, um den Gästen unvergessliche kulinarische Erlebnisse zu bieten.

Zu den Highlights zählen nach wie vor die zarten Spareribs, die einfach himmlisch sind. Das Fleisch fällt förmlich vom Knochen, und die Marinade ist ein Traum! Auch das butterzarte Tenderloin Steak bleibt eines unserer Lieblingsgerichte. Die Burritos sind ebenfalls ein absolutes Muss – einfach köstlich!

Die Desserts sind eine willkommene süße Überraschung, mit einer feinen Auswahl, die den perfekten Abschluss eines tollen Essens bilden.

Das Ambiente von El Bigote bleibt charmant und einladend, und der Service ist genauso aufmerksam wie beim ersten Mal. Der perfekte Ort, um nach einem leckeren Essen den Abend an der Bar ausklingen zu lassen.

Wir können es kaum erwarten, bei unserem nächsten Besuch auf Bonaire wieder in El Bigote zu speisen! Vielen Dank für die großartige Gastfreundschaft!

Das Team mit Derk (Manager/Service), Harrie und Okke (Küche) sowie Dante an der Bar, kreieren die tollsten Gerichte und Drinks. Der Gast spürt, wie hier mit Freude und Hingabe die tollsten Gerichte und Drinks gezaubert werden. Highlight sind: Spareribs - noch nie so zarte Spareribs gegessen. Das Fleisch fällt buchstäblich vom Knochen. Die Marinade schlicht göttlich Feurig scharfe Shrimps Butterzartes Tenderloin Steak Burritos einfach zu lecker

Für die Nachspeisen Fans ist auch gesorgt. Leckere kleine feine Auswahl!

Das El Bigote ist ein kleines feines Restaurant, welches ein wirklicher Geheimtip ist. Schöne Ambiente, toller Service, geniale Küche und zum Abschluss an der Bar mit einem Drink den Abend ausklingen lassen.

Wenn wir Bonaire wieder besuchen, werden wir ganz sicher wieder im El Bigote essen!
