This past Friday, we had the pleasure of enjoying lunch at Vroeg in Bunnik, a beautifully located restaurant and bakery just outside Utrecht. Known for their craftsmanship and local ingredients, Vroeg effortlessly blends a warm, authentic feel with high-quality, freshly made dishes.
We sat outside on their glass-fenced off terrace, a brilliant feature that lets you enjoy the outdoors even when the early summer sun is accompanied by a crisp breeze. It’s the kind of space that invites you to linger — shielded from the wind, bathed in natural light, and with a peaceful view of the surrounding greenery.
For lunch, I opted for the long sliced bread – a signature item that combines freshly baked, crusty bread with a generous selection of spreads and toppings. Rustic, hearty, and full of flavor. My lunch companion went for the steak tartare, which was beautifully presented and perfectly seasoned. A refined classic with just the right balance of richness and freshness.
The friendly staff, laid-back ambiance, and thoughtful details made this a truly enjoyable experience. Whether you’re meeting a friend, having a work lunch, or just want to take a break in a serene setting, Vroeg delivers on all fronts.

Read moreWe went for dinner after trying their amazing bread. It definitely exceeded our expectations , the starters were delicious, we loved the tartare and the chevice. The main dishes were also a work of art: right size portions, perfectly cooked, and mostly an amazing combination of different flavours. I loved the side dishes: a lot of veggies, mostly local, and lot of "forgotten veggies", cooked in a simple but tasty way. Very good desserts and, last but not least, a very good espresso. The wine was also very tasty and high quality. Top service. The price was definitely honest for the amount and the quality of the food. I think it went straight to my top 2 favourite restaurant in the Netherlands. A nice side note: they have a small shop and a bakery, so at the end of the dinner you can buy some locals...
Read moreIt was a delightful experience. The concept of the place is unique, I love the wood bars from the ceiling, the blue coaches, and the buckets from the bathroom instead of regular sinks.
The latte machiatto is great. The steak was nice, and the service was great.
There are some minuses but still very nice and we will return: You can't access it from the main street. The location is great, but the parking road has wholes, and if it's rainy, you can take better anything else than white shoes. The recommended menu was 47 euro, but we paid 55. The tomaatjessoup for kids was delicious, but it didn't have any croutons. The indoor store sells bread, and we accompanied the dish with the bread that we bought. The prices are friendly, but the portions are...
