I came here for dinner with my wife, unfortunately the worst experience of our two week stay. I had a burger, which was OK in itself but unfortunately only tasted of pickled jalapenos and the fries were literally just a handful, the burger was about 1/3 the size of all the other restaurants. My wife had the chicken nachos as a starter, which were like crumbled leftovers from a packet. There were about 6 small pieces of chicken, the portion fit in one hand. After the meal my wife felt increasingly sick, so we had to leave in a hurry. She spent the next 5 hours in the bathroom. The price the restaurant is on the higher end but the quality is significantly worse than most other restaurants. Oh and my pineapple juice was the worst on the island, although there are certainly very good juices available in packets at fair prices. The "Blue Lagoon" cocktail I had was good, but also very small, 200-250 ml. We went to the supermarket regularly, and there was never a shortage of fresh fruit and vegetables. I'm writing this because the owner here like to argue about the supply situation and the prices. Other restaurants manage it much better, though. The restaurant at the bay and even the Chinese restaurant in the kiosk were much better in terms of taste and value for money.
Edit: Hello Discover Lagun, I expected you to argue against the guest's experience, as always. Please understand that we did not speak to you when the food poisoning became noticeable and that we simply had to get home as quickly as possible. We often travel to areas with very warm temperatures such as Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, etc. We are used to this and this was our 5th day on the island and we did not come to you from a day at the beach. The tempertures are fort sure not responsible. I do not understand why you are responding with clear untruths. Pictures of other guests show that the burger is only slightly bigger than the tomato slice... if it had that much meat, the patty would have to be about 4 -5cm thick. I expect a balanced combination of ingredients in a burger; these should also be noticeable and not completely dominated by pickled jalapenos, which for sure i expected on the burger. The nacho starter was an insult to me as a guest in terms of quantity, taste and value for money, not to mention the food poisoning. I don't understand why you lie about the cocktails. I had the Blue Lagoon in both restaurants, and I found a photo of your cocktail. Based on the water glass and the lime, anyone can clearly estimate the size. I also see that a year ago you were using the same glasses as your neighbors, or do you decide from guest to guest whether to use the small or the regular ones? The food price for the fresh meat and other fresh ingredients in supermarkets on Curacao for end customers is mostly the same as in Europe, and other restaurants on Curacao also offer significantly higher quality quantitie with fresh ingredients.
I hope you reconsider how you respond to criticism of your...
Read moreWe have been visiting beautiful Curacao for over two decades and there are a handful of lunch places that we enjoy frequenting over the course of each of our stays. Occasionally, we try out a new restaurant, and boy, are we happy that we did! We checked out Discover Lagun Restaurant after about a week of our three-week stay last month, and found ourselves returning there over and over again. We were told they’ve been in business for around three (or four?) years, which is good news for us, in that we’d really be kicking ourselves if we thought we’d missed out on this little gem for all the years we’ve been visiting the island. Discover Lagun sits atop a small hill that borders the parking lot to Playa Lagun. It is not the largest of places, but it’s roomy enough to afford plenty of space in between tables, which in this era of Covid, can seem pretty important. Some of the tables allow for a limited view of the beach at Lagun, but most give the patron a lovely view of the green hills in the distance. There are cooling breezes to enjoy, and a wonderful sugar feeder that attracts a large number of bananaquits, troupials and orioles. There is a really nice feel to the place, a feeling of peace, that is broken only by the’80’s era radio station, which the cook/owner sings along with loudly (and entertainingly!). The menu is varied, with a nice selection of fish and chicken dishes, salads, hamburgers and pizzas. They also bake their own breads and rolls, which you can order accompanied by a delicious herbed garlic butter. They feature a number of different beers, sangria, and fruit smoothies, of which the pina colada became a particular favorite. The prices are very reasonable, when considering that you are visiting a tourist destination. And last, but by no means least, we really felt that the staff were all incredibly nice. We are already in countdown mode for our next...
Read moreHorrible! Really unfortunate as it is only about 10 minutes from the home we are staying in. We were hoping to take a short drive and have a nice casual lunch with a few cocktails. After a long full day of being in the sun the day before it sounded perfect. It was anything but. When we first arrived there were only two other tables with a party of four and a party of two. We were told to take a table anywhere by our server. Great. This is where all service or kindness ended with a screeching halt. We travel the Caribbean quite a bit and are used to things being more laid back, we love island time. This was not island time by any means. We ordered drinks that came out 20 minutes later, again no problem, island time right? This is where the problem occurred and why I am writing this review. The restaurant started to fill in, the two top turned to 6, almost all tables filled in within 20 minutes. We waited an hour and 45 minutes for our food which was appetizers and sandwiches for two which all came out at once, had to flag our server down for a refill on drinks. I have worked in the service industry before so I understand a busy restaurant can move a bit more slowly, not the case. Every other table in the restaurant was served appetizers, drinks, entrees, and even desserts before we got our food. The place literally filled up and cleared out while we sat waiting for our food and hopefully a refill on drinks. Not sure if the difference was we were the only non Dutch speakers in the restaurant and I certainly hate to think that, but it sure felt like it. I have never felt unwelcome anywhere in all of my travels until stepping foot in Discover Lagun. The food was ok but the service was...
