Restaurant X — Restaurant in Curaçao

After four visits to the Curaçao island and trying quite a number of suggested and well-rated restaurants, I was honestly a bit underwhelmed with the offer of vegetarian/vegan quality food options on the island. After staying at the Bohemi Resort, we've decided to give X a try, and wow! Did it deliver!

The staff was extremely friendly and could offer really good advice on the food and wine. I have absolutely loved the atmosphere. Surrounded by palms in a dimmed lighting scene and a red / black color scheme I've felt transported into an 80s James bond movie. A really cool experience and a super pleasant place to spend an evening. We ended up being among the last guests to leave

Now to the food. This was without any doubt the best part We've had a 3 course menu and each course was nothing less than perfect. Every dish has received such attention to detail and so much effort that it was breathtaking. My dinner started with the best ravioli I've ever tried with supper-yummy truffle butter. Under the ravioli, there was a red sauce with an amazing composition of different aromas. The sauce was the absolutely perfect companion to the truffle butter and has blown my mind a bit to be honest. The dish had so many different layers of taste that I was discovering them until the last bite. The main dish was quinoa wellington that was simply perfect. The intention of this dish was clearly not to try to simply imitate meat, but to make something completely new, and this was super successful! Juicy, yet crunchy on the outside, aromatic and all in a perfect 'gravy' sauce. I was once again enjoying the endorphine rush after this one. The dessert was just perfect. A Brownie with a Tonne of different small thingies... All in all, I was really mind blown after the visit. This restaurant offers food and an atmosphere that is unmatched by anything I've visited on the island and has in one night become one of my favorite restaurants...

Points for Improvement:

Water Service: It would be appreciated if water were served in a bottle rather than out of a can, which would enhance the overall dining experience. We only had one glass of water for the entire evening.

Food Quality: While the wine was excellent, the food did not meet expectations. The steak tartare lacked the depth of flavor typically associated with the dish, and the risotto was unfortunately too dry. Additionally, the panna cotta was served too cold, which detracted from its intended texture and taste.

Ambience: The overall atmosphere could be improved to better complement the meal, as it felt somewhat lacking in character.

Chef's Presence: A curious aspect of our experience was a prescription or description of the chef, which emphasized his desire to engage with guests and understand their preferences. However, despite these expectations, we did not see the chef during our visit, which felt somewhat disconnected from the narrative presented.

While the wine was a highlight of the evening, the food and certain elements of the service left room for improvement. We hope these issues can be addressed to provide a more consistent and enjoyable experience for...

From the moment we set foot in Restaurant X, we knew we were in for a treat. The warm welcome from JW set the tone for an exceptional evening. Noticing that we had young kids with us, he thoughtfully offered a private table surrounded by tropical greens—something any parent traveling with little ones can truly appreciate.

We started with the bread and dip, along with the red bell pepper feta brûlée with naan—both a fantastic introduction to the meal. For appetizers, we enjoyed the beef carpaccio, the smoked salmon with couscous, and the beet carpaccio. Each dish was beautifully presented and well-balanced in terms of flavor and texture.

For mains, we had the steak and the duck, accompanied by a few side dishes. Every bite was a testament to the kitchen’s skill in crafting dishes with complementary flavors—thoughtfully composed and simply delicious.

Beyond the food, the service was outstanding. JW took the time to chat with us, making us feel truly welcome. Attentive, accommodating, and genuinely hospitable, the team at Restaurant X ensured we had a wonderful experience.
