I found myself amidst a cackle of women on one of the terraces of Picknickers the other day. The joint exudes a hipster-like target audience which is funny because real hipsters don't wander more than 20 miles from Amsterdam. Picknickers is situated along the Frisian lake waterfront but the view from the terrace is limited to reeds and a boat ramp. The ramp has plenty of comedic value as couples often fail to gracefully launch their boats - to the delight of most of the onlookers. The Maitre 'D greeted us remembering our names, We had booked earlier in the day and were offered a choice of where to sit, this visit we brought along friends who brought their 2 large Greyhounds with them, and this was no problem. Again the service was excellent and the food outstanding. Our friends ate off the standard menu but my wife and I had one of each of the specials. Yet gain the food was excellent. We all had an excellent evening. WELL DONE...
Read moreOne of our favorite spots. The location is splendid, close to the Heerensyl bridge, so Hafen-kino ('harbour slapstick') is guaranteed. My favorite poison: gin-tonic with Henrick's gin, cucumber, dille, pepper corn and a few little flowers if you are lucky, served with st. Pellegrino Tonic water. They also stock fresh oysters!! (if the season is right). Finally try their burgers......
