Knollen & Citroenen — Restaurant in Dordrecht

We had an absolutely amazing evening at this beautifully decorated restaurant. It’s unique, with a lot of character and warmth. Lots to look around at and take in. It felt very authentic. From the interior you really understand why so many reviews mention the grandma! Every step had a surprise and it felt like a whole experience eating here. It’s such a wonderful idea having tasting sets for ‘indecisive guests’ who want to try one of each soup, or one of each meat or fish dish or desert. The food itself was great. We shared the soup tasting trio as a starter and each one was tasty. Again the way it was served was fun and made it exciting. The chicken (koekoek) main was really good with a delicious sauce. As an ‘indecisive guest’ I got the tasting set of fish mains. I had never even had butterfish (botervis) before but I really enjoyed it. Each fish had a slightly different sauce, and different mashed potatoes to go with it. The waiter didn’t speak amazing English but was still very friendly and able to explain things to us (like how to best eat the palate cleanser or what was in the bowl that came with the chips). We eat dinner here on a friday evening (march 4) with 2 people. It's a cozy small restaurant in de city center of Dordrecht. We made a reservation in the morning and were happy there was still a table, since it was my birthday.

For starter you will get a nice bag of bread with some tapas. The menu is very creative and have a variety to choose from. You can also pick the 'confused chef cook' meal and let the cook make something special.

We were impressed with the main course. The plate was hot, the meat and fish very well done and on the side we got chicory with a cheese-sauce from the oven.

The service was also excellent. Very polite waiter, always there when you need him. A 5 star rating for this tiny restaurant is...

So so very disappointing! Read all the great reviews and thought we were gonna have a fab and delicious dinner, but NOT AT ALL. Everything was just yuk, too sweet, too cooked, wrong seasoning, nothing tasted good, and some things even tasted awful! We are a French family, we like to cook, we like to eat, we like to travel. They even measure the amount of wine they serve you! Who the hell does that??? Apart from the 'bizarre' decor, there's really nothing there. Oh and it's also expensive. My advise: just...
