So, this was a trip to celebrate our 30+ wedding anniversary. Due to Covid, we chose to stay in the country and reviewed the Covid measures of different hotels before traveling. We selected Van der Valk Hotel Dordrecht. We booked a special 3-days arrangement that included 3 x breakfast and 2 x 3-course dinner. As we were celebrating, we booked the Skyline suite.||||First impression: The very first impression you get from a hotel is the accessibility and importantly, the friendliness and swiftness of the check in procedure.||Mind you this was Covid time before the mass vaccination in The Netherlands. The hotel was well marked where to stand to wait to be serviced by the check-in clerk, so this felt safe. The checking in was very swift and the gentleman at the counter seemed sincerely friendly and enjoying his work. He explained the rules and measures for Covid, and we were quickly dispatched to our room on the 13th floor.||||The Room: The room was awesome! The management pictures on the website provide a truthful impression of the suite. From the 13th floor of course, you have a great view, and you could look far into the distance, but still it is a view of mainly the A16 motorway connecting the Rotterdam harbour with Belgium. The room had an open shower with two rain shower heads. This shower is one big window with the described view. You can shower while looking at the sun going down and being thankful for the privilege you have of being in that position. This was great and we very much enjoyed it.||||Downside: Not everything was alright though, the coffee maker was damaged, but I thought it was I that could not make it work. By the time we complained it was already time to go. A big disappointment was a foul odour coming from the sink in the toilet. Housekeeping tried to help and called the technical assistant. He gave us chlorine granules to put in the sink, but this just helped temporarily. We ask to look again, but even though he promised, he did not come anymore.||||The staff: The staff at the breakfast buffet and restaurant were wonderful a very willing to assist. They could not do much more that make sure you could take the meals to the room. We got the impression that the really missed being able to do what they were trained to do. They seemed to love their work and you could see that in their smiles and doing whatever was possible within the boundaries of the Covid measures. The staff made us feel very welcome.||||Complaint: Afterwards I complaint about the odour and coffee machine. The management offered me a 25% discount on a possible next stay at their hotel. Though I like the gesture, it would have been better if the discount were for the whole Van der Valk chain and not only Hotel Dordrecht. But I don’t know if that is possible. Still, I appreciated the quick respond, emphasizing the swiftness in all the hotel’s actions.||||All by all it was a great stay in...

Read moreThe food was great! Unfortunate the overnight-stay wasn’t good and the service of the hotel horrible. ||We booked a night in the sky suite of the hotel. The room looked great. We booked the night stay for our wedding night, I made sure they would be aware of that and it would be a special night for us. They offered us a complimentary (small) bottle of Prosecco what was very nice of them. ||Unfortunately we couldn’t enjoy our room in the way intended because apparently the fitness was above our sky suite! We |constantly heard the noice of falling weights on our ceiling. We told about this in the evening because it was really horrible and they just told us, sorry there isn’t anybody right now in the fitness. We can’t do anything more. ||Okay well fine we thought, maybe it’s over than. But it started again already in the morning! We woke up at 06:30 in the morning! Because somebody was throwing weights already again. ||I went downstairs because this wasn’t really how I intended my wedding night to go. The funny fact was when I went down I was with the person from the fitness! So I did my complained and they said sorry but there isn’t anybody in the fitness, no I know i replied. I was with that mister in the elevator! ||But they said they can’t do anything, I told them I want to speak to a manager but they only offered me the reception email and just send a complaint. ||Of course I send the complaint and I didn’t get a reply until the next day after my check out. You can solve a problem really well when your customer already checked out. ||They offered me a 50% discount on my next stay including breakfast. But I told them I live normally in Finnish Lapland and the last time I spend an overnight stay at there hotel was 3 years ago.||When I told I didn’t accept that offer and I would like a free night stay including breakfast before I leave back to Finland they just told me that that isn’t possible because the problem wasn’t so severe. ||Unfortunately after my reply they never answered to me again. They neglect to solve a complaint in 72 hours and deal with it in this manner! ||I am born and raised in Dordrecht and since the hotel and restaurant are build we dine in the restaurant. The restaurant is amazing and the service great! But the experience of the hotel was awful and the handling of the complaint was even worse.||What should have been a once in a life time experience in a good way for a wedding night turned out to be a once in a life time experience in a negative way. I never experienced this kind of...
