La Barceloneta — Restaurant in Eijsden-Margraten

Table for 4 People. 7pm Booking on a Saturday. On arrival only 2 tables left inside and I think 2 further tables already reserved outside. Great first impression to see a place so busy.

I had been recommended La Barceloneta by some work colleagues, specifically to try the Surprise Menu (38.50). We were not disappointed.

The surprise menu came with a total of 4 rounds of food, each of which had 5 different dishes, including a dessert round also which is definitely one for those who like it rich!

I would have to say that the speed of delivery/ service of these rounds was pretty spot on. Do not expect to go in and be fed quickly in this method. I would say there was a wait time of 45 minutes between rounds. This break was very welcome as it meant you can prepare some more space for the following rounds!!

The servers are attentive and, between the various staff members, could speak English, Spanish and Dutch.

We spent about 3 1/2 hours in there but at no point felt like we had excessive waits or overstayed our welcome. If i had to critique one thing i would say that the price of a jug of Sangria is a bit top heavy.

We will most definitely be going back.

As spanish we love to find good spanish food in the nearby.

The food is correct. The people is super friendly. The best the Wine, Quality price for NL, super.

We eate: Jamon Serrano, not cutted with knife, not the best. Manchego cheese - correct but not special Piquillo with oak cheese - very good, Croquetas- strange but good calamares - the best dish Navajas- did not like it Chocolate caliente brownie with icecream-Very good.

The price is in the NL range, from SP perspective, bit over price for the overal quality but...

The food was reasonable though the service was less than one would expect: staff forgetting what was asked, long waits, no personal attention ..etc. Service was friendly but staff seems to be overworked. Was a bit disappointed as my high expectations from the reviews unfortunately did not meet. In my opinion this tapas bar is mainly focused on the local villagers. It certainly is not a serious competitor to the more established well-known tapas restaurants from neighbouring Maastricht. Will not come back...
