Al Vesuvio — Restaurant in Gemert-Bakel

Excellent, bravo Sergio! Super friendly service, simple menu with top quality items, and some really unique specialties, like my preferred Vitello Tonnato (exactly like my mum and nonna used to make), delicate tortellini alla panna, and tasty polpette d melanzane. The pizza is also as good as I remember it growing up in Italy, Enzo and Saskia are certainly proud of you, Sergio, you bring your own youthful touch to the already well known and appreciated Al Vesuvio; a fresh new interpretation of an Italian Trattoria....

I came here for the pizza, after some hearing some good stories about this place. The owner and the staff in the kitchen supposed to be Italian, so then the expectations increases of course. I got the pizza capricciosa as a main with a red wine from the abruzzo region. As a starter we got a bruschetta with anchovies. I liked the pizza, but I got better before. The restaurant looks attractive and the menu offers more than enough different Italian dishes. If I lived in Gemert, I would...

Da evitare. Pizza di bassissimo livello. Sorvolando sul fatto che il menu in Inglese diceva certi prezzi e nella realtà erano altri. Ma il problema principale era la pizza. Da mangiare al cucchiaio da quanto era molle. Il servizio era molto buono, il personale gentile, tuttavia il rapporto qualità prezzo era pessimo. Per non parlare del cuoco, che alla cassa ci ha preso in giro perchè avevamo ordinato la frutti di mare in Olanda (peccato che il 50% del loro menu prevede pesce). Se volete una vera pizza italiana lasciate perdere questo posto!

To be avoided. Very low level pizza. Overlooking the fact that the menu in English said certain prices and in reality they were others. But the main problem was the pizza. To be eaten by the spoon since it was soft. The service was very good, the staff nice, however the value for money was very bad. Not to mention the cook, who at the cashier made fun of us because we had ordered seafood in Holland (actually the 50% of their menu includes fish). If you want a real Italian pizza forget...
