I rented three bicycles there yesterday in the Gouda shop. My friends who came from Paris to visit and I had been planning a bike ride to the nearby cherry farm stand for the past week. We got about 3 miles away from the shop well into the country, and bike chain broke on one of the bikes. It was completely unreadable. A link snapped and the chain broke in two. We called the shop from where we were hoping they could maybe send somebody out to help us. But they said sorry you’ll have to come back to the shop. It was a long walk and it really ruined our plans- too late in the day to start over. The manager of the store refused to give us a discount or a refund. It was unthinkable that she was unwilling to give us any kind of refund despite the fact that their bicycle broke and scuttled our plans. She offered us a free drink....

As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry for many years, I'd be the first to tell you that sometimes... things go wrong despite your best intentions. It happens. It's fine. We're all human here and it's just a meal at a restaurant. However, a little honest communication goes a long way.
If the kitchen has yet to start on my order after I've waited more than an hour for a small lunch and already settled the bill because I have to go, don't say "het komt eraan." It obviously isn't almost done, and I could hear the waitress asking the kitchen to start on my order only after I settled the bill.

Read moreThis was a totally unexpected place: my wife and I ended up in it my chance on an early Saturday morning. The place wasn't opened yet but they let us in anyway.
The atmosphere is probably the first thing that gets the attention: modern, fresh, but comfy at the same time. While a side is suitable for kids (including a slide) another side of the place is suited for business, with closed conference rooms that one can reserve.
Food-wise it's made with a certain attention: the croque messieur was very tasty and philly cheese steak was an interesting twist on the original.
Definitely worth stopping by, even if you're just killing some time before your next train since it's right in front of...
