Eeterij Juno — Restaurant in Kapelle

I really wanted to like this due to the rave reviews, but having spent about 50€ for dinner, it first took 10 mins for a small beer to be served, another 15 mins from that for the starter to be served, and then another 35 mins from that for my main course to arrive! the restaurant had literally gone from full to half empty when my full order was served.

I would still have been satisfied if my main was delicious, but the beef was too salty, had ZERO Maillard browning whatsoever, and a third of it was overcooked to medium well instead of medium rare. and the best part was that this was served on a thick bed of mash potatoes with a single lone carrot surrounded by more boiled baby potatoes, AND accompanied by a huge bowl of fries on the side. the market must have been having a giant discount on potatoes, because this truly was a plate of sad brown and beige, instead of what other people seemed to be having in their colourful photos.

this experience was tragic by any definition, and I left after having had two dishes in 90 mins. the waitress asked me once after I was done if dinner was ok, and what else could I say but "it's ok" when all is done? I wasn't going to eat another meal if they want to "correct" matters, and why put everyone in an awkward situation then? the restaurant should not depend on customers for quality control, and QC should be in the kitchen.. I'm still sad about my "potato-forward" dinner, and can only suggest that the restaurant try to at the very least add more bright colours and veggies to their dish presentation in...

Just two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of dining at Eeterij Juno, located at Sluisplateau 30b, 4424 BK Wemeldinge. Pity I didn’t take any picture: the food was not only delicious, but also nicely presented. Great choice of drinks, including non-alcoholic ones (big plus for alc-free Aperol Spritz!). Cosy, friendly, a bit family-like atmosphere.
