The River — Restaurant in Leidschendam-Voorburg

Very nice spot to have some drinks, lunch or dine. The River is located at the canal De Vliet and has a big terras to enjoy outside. Yesterday we reserved a table for 3 in the evening. It was crowded because of the beautiful weather but it was nice to be there and enjoy the evening. Because of the large volume of guests, getting served took longer than expected but that's fine. It's more the fact that we were served later than other tables that got their tables later than us. Plus the fact that side-disches where delivered after we finished our main courses. We made a remark of that to the nice waitress who served us the entire evening but she couldn't help out. So full cheque and no gesture from their side to offer a coffee on the house or something. The River is a nice restaurant in a very nice place. I think the rating is very close to being a perfect 5. The food was pretty good, but it wasn’t quite as good as you would expect for the price.

The name is misleading as there is not a River here, it should be called the Canal or the Vliet. I had completely given up on any hope of finding Dirk that day, so Johan and I decided to get some food instead. The cut of steak had quite a hard piece to it and the burger had a piece of bone in it and was also quite salty. However, we did see a duck that swam underwater for around 50m which was very impressive. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes to enjoy a drink or some food out by the water, or, anyone who likes ducks, especially ducks that can...

Have been here weekly with our family and in general good experience; service and food. Except from today; as a regular guest you would expect that without reserving at least a couch would be offered awaiting availability. However, we were facing inflexibility and no customer mindset. While giving feedback no solution was offered and we were even facing rudeness and arrogance. Regret to have spent so many evenings at this place without building a relationship. Complaints abt staff were not taken seriously by manager. Fortunately a neighbour restaurant in Voorburg was more welcoming even though also there it was fully booked.
