This is a review of our lunch at L'Auberge in the context of value (~260 EUR for 4 people) & Bib Gourmand rating

Food: The food was generally good, but not amazing. The biggest problem was that it took almost 3 hours to serve a 3 course lunch served lunch. (more in Services) No major gripes with the food, there were great ingredients but the flavors were off balance - e.g. sauerkraut with smoked salmon - the sauerkraut was so strong that you could not taste the salmon at all. This was the case with 2 of 3 meals we had for lunch. Lastly, the game meat we had didn't have enough sear and rest - blood was running on the plate when served As we had a pie for breakfast, none of the group wanted dessert, so we asked to have two appetizers and main instead of dessert - we were informed that was possible but at 4 EUR per person extra. We thought it was a bit funny to go from 49 EUR to 53 EUR per person but okay, apparently it was slightly more food so understandable

Overall tasty food and quality ingredients but execution left something to be desired.

Service: Very friendly and trying hard, but unfortunately this was the biggest gap. As mentioned, we had a 3 course lunch which took close to 3 hours, it simply took too long, when mentioned to the service, they said they were aware - no apology, no proactive approach, just constant questions if we wanted more wine; this spoiled the experience as we waited more than an hour for our main after our second appetizer

It seems you have the right staff, just still a little rough around the edges.

Atmosphere: A great space but too cold We were all too cold in the restaurant and the bathrooms were freezing, there is ongoing reconstruction of the restaurant, therefore the premises are affected so hopefully this won't be the case much longer

Otherwise a very nice space, tasteful decorations and beautiful surroundings

I had high hopes for the place as the main restaurant has always delivered well but unfortunately, the experience...

Being foodies on a culinary trip through The Netherlands, we selected this property to try out the two restaurants and booked a suite with garden to stay in all comfort. We were not disappointed, as both restaurants were absolutely fantastic and service impeccable! Astonishing was how the staff dealt with a dental emergency we encountered before arrival. They were able to schedule an appointment at 8 pm, requiring a 30 minute drive. We decided therefor to have an early dinner at their L'Auberge restaurant which serves only (excellent) set menus, informing the manager about our appointment. They tried to serve our courses a bit expedited, but it didn't work out and we had to leave prior to the main course. The manager was so kind to only charge what we had consumed and even proposed that we could return to finish the meal if possible. We left at 7.20pm and came back around 9.45pm to find a restaurant with no customers anymore, but the full staff waiting for our return! Since it had begun raining, and cars are to be parked outside the castle walls, the manager left even two umbrellas for us hanging at the castle's gate. We had two more courses, indulged in wine and can only praise manager and staff into heaven! This level of service is above and beyond!||We further enjoyed the lovely grounds, the spacious wine cellar carved in the hill behind the castle and the culinary garden in which we had also a lovely chat with the gardener.||Neercanne is undoubtedly one of the Relais and Chateaux properties not to miss when in Belgium or The...

The Château is a unique place! Excellent venue as a castle or as a place for garden-dinner but you can also enjoy the mystical dim and events in the cave of the quarry. There are traces of wine culture but I really miss the vineyards on the hillside. The view around is beautiful! The Neercanne Castle, the only terraced castle in the Netherlands. Also, it is home to a renowned, Michelin starred restaurant! The castle is first mentioned in the 14th century; since then it has been rebuilt several times. It owes its current Form to Baron Van Dopff, the military governor of Maastricht, who had a country residence built there in 1698. Behind this castle, marl blocks were quarried, probably to obtain building stone for the castle and its terraces, in an underground marl quarry: the Kasteelgroeve. The castle owner owned the quarry for centuries and had it mined commercially. But the inhabitants of the village of Kanne were also allowed to saw blocks for their own use, such as a new barn or renovation. This resulted in many small-scale clearings that give this corridor system a whimsical appearance.

An exceptional dining experience in every respect. Château Neercanne offers a truly memorable setting – the historic castle, its terraced gardens, and the view over the Jeker Valley create an atmosphere that is both elegant and serene. The ambiance is sophisticated yet inviting, perfectly balanced to make you feel welcome without any formality. Service was flawless: attentive, professional, and genuinely warm. Every member of the team ensured we felt cared for, all without being intrusive or overly formal – a rare and much-appreciated combination. We opted for the fish-based menu, which was nothing short of outstanding. Each course was beautifully presented and perfectly executed, with subtle flavor combinations that reflected real culinary finesse. The chef’s creativity and respect for seasonal ingredients were evident throughout. A place to return to – and to recommend without hesitation.

The view was phenomenal but didn’t compare to the outstanding fresh food and attentive service. The entire experience from arrival to departure was like being transported to a time where the only thing that mattered was who you were with and what you were talking about. We went for lunch and the price was very reasonable- we both had a 3 course meal with accompanying wine and paid only $135 which for the quality of food was a very fair price. Getting to this restaurant was the only difficult part as Maastricht does not yet have Uber so we had to taxi out there from city center and that cost about $30 one way. However upon leaving the host kindly called a taxi for us.
