This restaurant is beautifully located just outside of Maastricht, along the Maas, at the yacht harbor. A small vineyard and nice landscaping make finish the beautiful scenery. The menu is not too extensive but offers choices for fish, meat and vegetarian French cuisine style dishes. I was particularly impressed with our salmon starter. The flavours were amazing and we love salmon sashimi. The main course was also well prepared, both the pork and the tenderloin. Both the starter as well as the mains were plated nicely. Dessert was excellent as well. Staff is friendly and helpful. Expect to wait 20min between courses. Prices are slightly above average for Maastricht but their 3 course set menu is priced very friendly. Expect to spend a little over 100,- for a full set meal for 2 persons, depending on your drinking habits of course.

Sofa restaurant is located on the beautiful grounds of Kasteel De Hooghenweert, but not part of the same business group as the hotel. The Sofa restaurant has beautiful settings, both outdoor as indoor. It is a true pleasure to spend time here on dry summer afternoons and evenings. One day we had lunch and the next day dinner in the restaurant’s outdoor area. Quite a lot of people on both days, mix of locals and tourists, and you could tell that people did travel on purpose here. All food and wine we tried was delicious. Service very attentive, professional, while pleasantly informal. I would highly recommend this restaurant when in the Maastricht – Aachen – Liege area and planning a small detour.

This is one of the best restaurants I have visited the previous period. It is located beautifully in an isolated area close to Maastricht. Upon arrival the staff welcomed us and offered the house cocktail (Balon 43) which tasted really good. We took the 3-course menu with cheese as desert. We asked if there was a possibility to get the steaktartar as starter. The waitress couldn't promise but would try. We received a delicious steak tartar. Also the main course of meat was excellent. All in all, this diner outside was just excellent and the staff contributed to that for sure. Would go here again! Ps the vintage Tawny port of Croft is absolutely recommended with the cheese.

Negative experience. Yesterday, Saturday 4.30pm my wife and myself wanted to have a drink at the Sofa terrace. We wanted to taste the atmosphere in order to understand if this could be a future place for a dinner with friends since a business relation recommended this to me. The terrace was less then 20% occupied and already prepared for dinner, we were told they were full. We left the place, we were flabbergasted, not even to mention the arrogant waiter, there are so many ways to say "no". Never ever we will visit this place again, there are many other restaurants in the area that truly respect their customers, this restaurant is not worth your money. We drove in the direction of Kanne and enjoyed a glass of wine at a terrace , we only needed 45 minutes to relax...

p.s. after reading the various reviews posted here, I must conclude our experience was not an incident. Apparently others had the same type of treatment. To all my business contacts I will recommend to...

We were a party of 18. No vegetarian options on the set menu on Sundays (it’s only on the small print that it’s a set menu that day), so they said we could choose from A La Carte which seemed like a good solution but then they charged all the set menus AND the separate items we ordered for the vegetarians, so effectively 4 of us ended up paying for two menus each which is really unfair. On top of that one waiter was extremely rude to my 11 year old son in response to a question about when the mains were coming (as it was late and he was trying to decide whether to go to bed (as we were staying at the wonderful venue next door) or wait around for longer). So overall, I feel cheated and very disappointed. The food was alright. Snobby attitude from some of the staff which is...
