Never again, can not recommend!
We stayed at Savarin in February 2020 for a short getaway. We were delighted to find such a nice five star hotel with a spa. We stayed for three nights, but quite honestly, one would have been more than enough. At first glance, the place looks neat and clean enough, but once you look a little more closely, you notice a lot of dust in the corners, in outlets and on handles in the bathroom - it’s dust that’s been sitting there for a while due to sloppy cleaning. There was a spiderweb next to the window.
Upon check out we stated all of our concerns and what had happened during our stay. The receptionist seemed very eager to “fix“ the situation, but she did not have the required authority to actually do anything about what had happened. She promised us one of the managers would get in contact with us - as soon as possible. Almost a week after we left we sent an email to the hotel manager and to the manager of the restaurant (the ones who were supposed to get in touch). Shortly after we received a call from the hotel manager to talk about the situation. First of all she believed everything had been solved during our stay, but it turned out someone from their staff had lied about the plastic in the food. It was a huge mess and the end of the story - for plastic in the food that we could have swallowed or choked on - we received an aprox. 5€ discount and the offer to come back and receive a free drink. Considering this a restaurant also recommended by Michelin with a plate for good cooking their behavior is an absolute joke. And no, we will not come back to pay for another meal with plastic or for a room full dust.
If you would like to know why:
The restaurant offers a la carte options as well as three- to seven-course meals. One of us opted for a three-course meal and the other one ordered a la carte. So, the food itself was nice, but: There was a piece of plastic in my meal. The tuna tataki comes with tomato chutney and also avocado, which forms the bottom layer of the dish. Apparently, someone placed the avocado and forgot to remove plastic when plating the rest. My complaint was received with a puzzled look and a quick rush to the kitchen to find out where the plastic came from. I was then informed of the plating etc. A new entree was served with the words „Let‘s try this again“ and a very poor apology. With hindsight, I am honestly upset about how things were handled. The hotel’s advertising slogan is „Service with a Capital S“, but what we received was very bad service. I would definitely have expected more from a five star hotel with a restaurant that has Michelin plate. When we wanted to get back into our room, we couldn’t. The door was blocked from the inside and there was no chance we could open it from the outside. Somehow, the dead bolt had moved so the door had locked itself. When we asked for help, two different people tried in vain. Finally, after a substantial wait, the owner‘s son managed to open the door by cutting the dead bolt.
Our hotel breakfast the next day was also „okay“. Again, we did not find this to meet five-star-hotel standards. Usually, there’s a bigger selection plus fish. The two youngsters working at breakfast were a real disappointment (poor service, very loud runny noses, flirting with each other rather than focusing on the guests).
All in all, I am deducting one star for the dust in the room, one for the food and I am deducting another one because the service was absolutely not spelled with a capital S and the behavior was unacceptable. The highlight of our stay were the pastries at breakfast (very small breakfast btw.) and the nice lady with the glasses who served us the first two days...
Read moreWhen we arrived the reception was empty. There was not even a welcome drink in the room. The cleanliness of the hotel in general and the room in particular left a lot to be desired. Nothing you would expect from a 5 star hotel. The room was horribly decorated. The rug under the bed was completely crooked, and a wooden lamp that almost pierced my eyes twice.||Over the bed there was a button that said do not disturb with a night light so bright it was impossible to sleep well. The bedroom furniture was old and chipped. The bathtub had one of the faucets broken. The hotstone massage was one of the worst ever. Impossible to relax when the masseuse tries to make conversation and makes so much noise with the stones that it is impossible to relax even 1 min. The pool was okay. The rest of the SPA we did not try.We booked dinner at reception but when we arrived at the restaurant there was no reservation. The rest was across the street from the hotel, very uncomfortable having to go out to dinner in another building, especially on a cold and rainy day. But the worst was yet to come. We asked if it would be possible to make a bowl of rice or pasta for our 3 year old daughter but they refused. What restaurant, much more than 5 stars, refuses to make a simple rice for a child? Neither the poorest restaurant nor a 3 star hotel. Then we ordered fondue for two. When the waitress brought us the food came a plate with 5 small pieces of grilled meat and a tiny bowl of fries. When we said that it was not what we had ordered, but the fondue, they told us that the restaurant no longer made fondue. But then why was it on the menu? Why didn't the employee who served us the first time inform us that there was no fondue? As the dish that came was very little food for 2 adults and 1 child, we ordered another steak. Waiting another 30 min. When the waitress came with the plate, she dumped the fries all over the floor. We had to wait a little longer for the fries. The steak was good but for 30€ you expected a little more than 5 tiny strips of meat and a small bowl of pre-fried supermarket potatoes. Needless to say, our 3 year old daughter ate very poorly.Definitely untrained and very unfriendly staff.Breakfast was mediocre for a 5 star hotel. Breakfast at the level of a 2 star pension.||5 star hotel has absolutely nothing. At most 3 stars and already very forced.||In the end they wanted to charge us 15€ for the car park when the reservation we made on booking.com said that the car park was free. As we complained about the bad service they did, they decided to withdraw the 15€ from the final bill and the two tonic waters we drank for dinner.||Hotel not...
