Madurai Masala Cafe — Restaurant in Stichtse Vecht

If you looking to eat food cooked with a heart , Madurai Masala Cafe is the place. To test the heart theory all you need to eat is their ghee dosa it takes you straight down to the south of India. We have eaten there a couple of times now , from their chicken thokku porotha , mutton thokku paratha , filter coffee , the new addition of butter chicken paratha - mind you the paratha is super soft and super tasty you wont know what’s better the chicken or paratha

We have eaten there as well as take away. Unfortunately they are not on Kookxtra anymore but they are on Thuisbezorgd so if you are at home and craving their food you can still get it

Our bill came to 61 euro for 3 main dishes ie chicken thokku paratha , mutton thokku paratha , butter chicken paratha , ghee dosa and filter coffee with portions you can happily say I filled...

So, this place isn't fancy, nor 'gezellig'... But the food!! Definitely a must visit place! The food is so tasteful and well prepared. Our party of four had a vegitarian and a person on a gluten free/dairy free diet in our midst. We all had enough to choose from, although the menu is not extensively large.

We just ordered a bunch of starters and mains and shared amongst us. Portions are good. We are big eaters, we ordered too much.

All dishes are full of flavour and spices. Some more spicy than others, none of them too hot to handle. The owner came and ask us if spicy would be a problem.

Food generally evokes a lot of joy for me because I am a foodie. But for it to take me back to the happiest memories of my childhood and family, it is rare. That's because it is so difficult to find a truly authentic South Indian restaurant outside of India. Madurai Masala Cafe truly nailed the cuisine and they are as authentic as it can get. The Chai was exactly how my grandmother and mum make it back in India. The mutton Chettinad curry made me swoon with happiness and the biriyani was excellent.
