D'Amici — Restaurant in Utrecht

I’ve been to D’Amici several times, however this time was my least: the food did not live up to its expectations and service was fine in the beginning but slacked towards the end.

Food: we ordered one of the dishes of the day; a bigger type of ravioli filled with ricotta and spinach topped with a creamy sauce of Prosecco, pine nuts and cherry tomatoes. The pasta was not all dente, there was plenty of sauce (too much for my liking as it predominated the dish), however pine nuts were scarce and so were the cherry tomatoes. Moreover, the dishes arrived almost as soon as we’d ordered… No “need” for ordering a glass of wine with the food as we had barely started our aperitivo drinks. For dessert I had the pistacchio and white chocolate mousse, a bit too sweet and rich for my liking. However, that just comes down to preference and taste. Service: at first a waiter came to our table at regular intervals, but after dessert nobody came round anymore to ask if we wanted anything else. In the end we just asked...

I've been coming to D'Amici for years. The food is lovely, and sometimes the specials are truly wonderful, such as the parpadelle with slow cooked meat sauce that I had tonight. D'Amici moved location a few years back, giving them a larger size restaurant with space for more guests. At times, the restaurant suffers from it's own success, as there are so many guests that the kitchen has a hard time keeping up. They have now solved this issue by having 2 seatings on busy evenings, meaning that if you want the early seating, it's a good idea to reserve for 17:30. The patrons are present and visible in the restaurant - ensuring a good atmosphere - and if you don't like your food or have a special request, they are happy to accommodate you. (Obv bezoek tijdens lunchtijd) Sinds de verhuizing een mooi terras en daardoor een uitgelezen kans om publiek dat wil lunchen of even wat wil drinken flink in de watten te leggen. Dat viel even vies tegen.

We moesten zelf een aantal keer in actie komen, net als veel andere gasten op het terras. Mensen bestelden zelf drinken binnen of gingen zelf een menukaart halen. Een aantal mensen die gingen zitten werden pas na iets van een kwartier opgemerkt. Snel drinken doorgeven om vervolgens lang te moeten wachten op de menukaart of deze uiteindelijk zelf maar te gaan halen.

Er was duidelijk sprake van onderbezetting. 1 jongedame die redelijk onervaren overkwam deed het bijna alleen op het terras. Binnen was iemand aan het vegen terwijl er binnen niemand zat en buiten dus mensen heel lang moesten wachten. De eigenaar (?) had wel tijd voor gezellige praatjes, maar sprong niet veel bij.

Na 20 minuten ons drankje gekregen en na een uur hadden we onze broodjes, met alleen koude ingrediënten, voor ons. Het bord was onnodig ingewikkeld opgemaakt met balsamico slierten. Waarschijnlijk een verklaring voor de lange wachttijd.

Ik denk opzich een goed concept, maar het personeel moet nog wel ff oefenen met het prioriteren van het werk. Ook werden er veel dingen vergeten of werden er foutjes gemaakt op de rekening. Het eten was prima.
