Mau’s Bistro — Restaurant in Wijk bij Duurstede

I deleted the previous feedback because of privacy reasons, now here again:

The food tasted good, but what you get for your money is not much and also not special. It is just OK.

The service was ok, the waitresses were kind, often asked if everything is fine with the food, but the restaurant itself stinks inside, a kind of 'old smell'. A bit annoying, when you are eating meanwhile.

The menu itself is not very interesting, you can choose from a few meals (in total maybe 10-12), which based on the reviews are not often changed.

The biggest surprise came at the end when we wanted to pay. The bill was much higher than it should have been. We complained, and they said they combined the items the way it was cheaper for us. We kept saying that something is still not good, so at the spot they admitted that the 2 cheese plates shouldnt be on the bill, it was a mistake, and asked us what to do with it. We didnt want to start a long argument there, was very late, just wanted to leave, so we payed the amount what was on the bill without giving a tip, meaning: the mistake on the bill should be the tip. They were happy with it.

(Just to be fully clear, if we count, how it would have been cheaper for us, then they counted 2 rib eyes more)

We didn’t eat there because the waiter didn’t let us. After an entire day of cycling we stopped in this city and we saw several free tables outside this restaurant. We sat at one of them but a waiter told us they are full booked and right after that he put the Reserved sign on all the free tables. We ate at another restaurant in the area and after 1-2 hours we passed by this restaurant and we saw that now all the tables were free, not even one customer. We were wearing the bicycle clothes and maybe this was the reason for not letting us eat there but I would have appreciated...

Bij Mau’s Bistro ervaar je een avond die werkelijk uitblinkt op alle fronten. Wij zijn er nu 2 keer geweest, 1 keer voor en een keer na de switch van Sempre lui naar Mau’s bistro. Het concept is dan wel veranderd, maar de kwaliteit van het eten blijft hetzelfde, oftewel verrukkelijk! Het nieuwe concept biedt niet alleen unieke gerechten die je smaakpapillen verrassen, maar het straalt ook een gezellige, knusse sfeer uit waarin je je meteen welkom voelt. De bediening is top, professioneel en persoonlijk, ook nemen ze de tijd om je alles uit te leggen.

De menukaart is allesbehalve standaard, met een aanbod aan unieke gerechten. De bijpassende wijnen versterken elke smaak en maken het eten nog aangenamer. De bites (borrelhapjes) zijn een heerlijk begin van de avond of voor een gezellige middag.

Wij hadden het verrassingsdiner (Mau’s special) en dat is een absolute aanrader. Drie gangen lang word je meegenomen op een culinaire reis van mooie smaken en texturen die je niet snel zult vergeten. Elke gang is een smaaksensatie op zich. Waarbij je merkt dat de chef niet alleen technisch vaardig is, maar ook met veel passie en creativiteit de gerechten samenstelt.

Kortom, Mau’s Bistro biedt een unieke eetervaring die je niet mag missen. De perfecte combinatie van fijne gerechten, uitstekende bediening en een sfeer die je het gevoel geeft dat je ergens bijzonder bent. Zeker een plek die je keer op keer...
