The Alexander Cafe — Restaurant in Ōtara-Papatoetoe

Ordered for my granddaughter 1 big breakfast with scrambled eggs, instead got fried, runny eggs, rest of the meal was ok, she said food wasn’t as nice as previous times we’ve dined here. My son (first time here) ordered Buffalo wings that came with salad & wedges, meal was cold, too much salt on the wedges. The wings tasted like they were pre-cooked then re-heated & sauce poured over them & a few barely had any sauce, overall below average. My son said would’ve been better if we went to MacDonalds & rated this experience 2/10. Also ordered from the kids menu, pancakes, chicken nuggets & chips. Maple syrup had a green fly in it, my grandson is a big eater & didn’t finish either meal, said it tasted weird but his hot chocolate was nice. What happened did you change your chef? Hidden in the trenches of tin city, this is truly a hidden gem. The staff were friendly bubbly and polite. The service was spot on and very timely. Loved the RnB mixtape music in the background....took me back to the not-so-bigback days 🤭 As for the food? It was just spectacular!! I ordered the french toast and big breakfast, cause big backs have big appetites okay?? Dont judge! The mixture of fruit and pavlova topped with the syrup was heaven!!! The big breakfast was sensational!! Loved the perfectly cooked mushrooms and fluffy scambled eggs. I literally polished both plates, stopping short of licking the plates!! I have been told i am a very picky eater so an empty plate is a testament of how good the meals were!!! While out and about in South Auckland, we stumbled upon The Alexander Cafe, a hidden gem tucked away in an industrial-style area of Ōtara. From the outside, it’s unassuming, but step inside, and you’ll find a relaxed, welcoming spot that’s perfect for a coffee break.

We only had time for drinks, but they did not disappoint. We ordered an Iced Coffee with caramel syrup (no cream) and a Dirty Chai (chai with a shot of espresso) — both were absolutely delicious.

The atmosphere was laid-back, with great music that made it easy to unwind. There’s plenty of seating inside, plus outdoor options for those who prefer fresh air.
