Omokoroa has two restaurants/ cafe with sea views and Alma is one. The other is The Boatclub, a minuteās walk away next to the wharf, whose head chef ironically was the founder of Almaās originally, then called The Esplanade. If you can book a table on the balcony at Alma, then this eatery might be worth a try. Itās very entertaining watching people launching their boats, fishing on the wharf etc.
There is really only one vegetarian main, Eggplant Parmigiana. No market fish dish despite its seaside proximity. The Eggplant Parmigiana is served on its own in a mid sized bowl and is priced at $32. We found it overly sweet and lacking in flavour. The garden salad we ordered comprised rocket leaves, Parmesan cheese and a few cherry tomatoes.
The tiramisu dessert was delicious. The dark chocolate mousse with coulis and strawberries was not. It had a peculiar after taste as if it contained condensed milk. The colour and flavour were not consistent with the use of quality dark chocolate.
The maƮtre d was full of bonhomie and checked customers were enjoying their meals. Seating is fairly close so not the place for an intimate dinner for two.
As weāve now eaten the only option for vegetarians and didnāt enjoy it, we wonāt be rushing back. If in the area I would try Montre dāatelier (next to FreshChoice supermarket, no sea views). Takeout pizza options are...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThought we'd take my my elderly mother to Almas.we decided to try else where as my mum couldn't find anything she like on the menu, that's OK,however when we asked if they could recommend any where else and the nice young lady at the counter said to try the boat club just opposite. Then the other older female staff member replied that the boat club was pretty average, firstly that's the wrong thing to say about your neighboring business,Secondly how wrong was she,I had possibly the best seafood chowder ever, and my mum demolished a simple loaded toasted sandwich, the service was 10/10 and the price was very fair compared to the huge prices at Almas.being retired from 44 years in the service industry,I am appalled at the backstab which has prompted me to comment, never slam your neighboring business,I won't be recommending or...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreQuaint little restaurant but big on delicious food, a gem hidden away in a little seaside golfing haven, Omokoroa. Opposite the fisherman's club set above a little convenience store you will find this rough cut diamond, but the food is anything but rough cut. Absolutely delicious food awaits your taste buds, we started with the tuna tartare and the beef carpaccio, both delectable. Our mains of Pan fried flounder in lemon butter caper sauce and Papadelle beef ragout with garlic pizza bread to mop up all the sauces of both dishes, was mouth watering. All washed down with NZs other finest lager (Heineken)...not really, but matched well with our fare! Totally recommend Alma to everyone, absolutely fantastic from the food, the ambience and finally but not...
