Monty's Chinese takeaways — Restaurant in Canterbury

I was very disappointed when I visited this fish and chip shop. When I entered the shop, the first thing I noticed was the run-down condition of the place. It needs a good paint and spruce-up. Then I noticed the dirt. On the red corrugated steel on the wall opposite the entry door, the dirt extended 100 mm from the floor into the corrugations of the steel. It is doubtful if it has been cleaned in YEARS. The tops of the skirting boards were filthy and the floor, while obviously having been cleaned, had not been polished. Paint was peeling off the walls and from the sign outside. The 'Welcome' mat was back-to-front, so you were welcomed as you left - which is about as much welcome as you get from the off-hand service. I asked for a fish-burger and got a bun with a small piece of fish and a bit of thin-sliced lettuce. I am not sure if there was any mayonnaise or tartare sauce.

Tonight we were excited to try the new Chinese takeaway in woodend. However we were dissatisfied, I ordered chicken fried rice with no onions also a tray of sweet sour pork and 6 wontons. The chicken fried rice was full of onions and there was very minimal amount of chicken an what chicken was in there was in tiny cubes . The sweet sour pork was pretty good however portion size was incredibly small the wontons tasted more like a spring roll rather than a meaty wonton. Hopefully this place will...

Unfortunately not the best Chinese food place around now that the new owners came through. Hard sell as we have refined our Chinese food preference to a place in new Brighton but we were so hopeful as new Brighton is just so far away to us in Pegasus. The Chinese food was just very bland and smaller portions which does mean a lot nowadays with how far you can stretch your dollar. Fresh ingredients but that’s about all it has going for it. Really had high hopes...
