Sim's Bakery — Restaurant in Canterbury

Heart warming savoury pies & pasties, excellent slice selection, but the one thing they do that makes me stop by more than I should when passing through; is the classic Filled Roll. A sandwich from my youth often immatated but never beaten 😆 as the one at Sims pretty much nails it.

Soft pilllowy roll; so light, it could float away in a breeze if not for the filling. Beetroot, because in NZ, we need it between bread with meat. The right amount of crunchy water lettuce, not too little & not too much. A slice of ham that doesn't dominate the flavour of the of the experience. And a bit of boiled egg because it seals the deal.

If I lived in Ash-vegus I'd probably have it for lunch every day.

Went to buy my lunch and a treat for my husband who is diabetic for Valentine's Day and was told they don't do any diabetic cake, so put back in the shelf the bread roll I was going to buy for my lunch, and left the shop unimpressed at the lack of not offering suggestions for the treat I so wanted to buy him with being in hospital and it was suggested that I try the Cafe Time place down the road. We had the trucker’s pie, steak&mushroom pie and potato mash pie, all were very hearty, filling and delicious! The ladies behind the counter were lovely and always greeting us with a warm smile.
