On a 3 week roadtrip of NZ, we were sampling pies all across the country. We visited Waimate with the intention of trying a Wallaby pie down the road, but were disappointed to learn they no longer existed. Luckily, we came to this place instead! The vibe inside the place is a little sterile, but the pies were phenomenal! We ordered a vegetarian and a pulled pork pie. Paired with their $10 pie and salad lunch deal, these were possibly (and a bit unexpectedly) the best pies of the trip. The flavours of both were excellent, the pastry was delicious and they were full. The vegetarian especially was a standout. I'd have one every week if this place was near me. Read moreLatte was hot, coffee tasted ok- nothing special. I had the steak and gravy pie. The pastry was just cooked on the bottom which made it a bit soggy. The contents were ok, Gravy wasn't smooth which means they left too much fat in the sauce and sadly you could taste it. The steak was cooked beautifully, but I did get a little sinew.. which ruined it for me. I'll be back but may try something else. We also shared a ham croissant - that was fresh and yum.

Bread is phenomenal, sweet pastries are too, have yet to try their pies but if appearances are anything then I’m certain they will be delicious. The sandwich offerings are odd, sometimes the flavour profiles seem a bit dated or confused, way too many pork options (NZ is obsessed with pork, bleh) and it seems that one of the makers is a bit stingy as some days the sandwiches just look…sad.
All in all though a great addition to Waimate, I’m sure the locals really...
