Royal Tavern — Restaurant in South Island

We ordered two chicken burger meals yesterday . The serving of chips was enormous !! Absolutely loved them , hot well seasoned crisp and ten out of ten .

The burgers , buns were beautiful warm soft and not a hint of soggy , wonderful to see tomato at this quality this time of year , sweet crisp lettuce , gorgeous sauce

However . The star , the crown , the jewel of this delicious burger the chicken was sadly disappointing it pains me to mention after everything else was near perfection the meat was chewy , a bit dry and really lackluster . The marinade was ok but Everytime I close my eyes and think of that mouthful of what should have been pure perfection . I cry a little inside .

14 family members ranging in age from late 50s to late 80s came together for a family lunch as 1 of us has been stuck overseas due to Covid. The bar was clean tidy and cozy warm. The young lady running the bar and our dining service was beyond excellent. (A bit of patience is sometimes required with older people) the menu covered all bases and the quality of meals could not be beaten anywhere. Bloody great small country pub tucker service that you dont get in the city. Well...

Serves Waiakato. Good old pub feel, great atmosphere. Locals will look after you, friendly bunch. Only tried pub grub couple of times and they're good. Publican lights the fire in winter so it's toasty. There's pool table and seating for big groups as well. Courtesy van when you over indulge, my car was safe and in one piece when I got back...
