Update March 2025: So we've had a lot more of these pies, all different flavors, and they are much better, like really delicious, the flakey pastry is perfect, the fillings are meaty, hearty and savory. We really love the cluckenberry n thyme, the steak and cheese, and pork belly jalapeno pies. The smokey boomer is also tasty. My fussy parents even said they're better than any Aussie pie they've had. Keep it up Sangas! We now buy them every week and buy them for our guests from overseas when visiting.
2024: We heard about these from people in the area so decided to try it, but was severely disappointed. The mince pies are ridiculously salty, it's like biting into a full blown vegimite pie, except vegimite would still be better. It was almost painful to eat, but given the rather high price we didn't want to throw it out, although I scraped some of the filling out cos I just couldn't do it. I could feel my blood pressure rise from eating the world's saltiest pie. We might try a different pie next time, heard the pork belly one was good, but definitely pass on those mince pies unless you just ran a marathon and need the...
Read moreBest pies Iâve had so far in NZ. Very big and brimming with filling. One is a meal for sure but youâll want to have a second. Strong base crust with flaky top. Super fresh. But the filling is the star. The Underbelly, Chinese spiced pork belly, was top tier. Just perfectly infused spice in the tender meat. And the smothering of gravy makes this pie feel like a hug from a long lost friend. Took one for the road and excited to try it when Iâm no longer stuffed.
Iâm on a bit of a pie tour of the South Island and this is the best pie so far (10+ tried)
Friendly staff and a cute space also stood out. Fun little hang out area in the back which is very comfortable and a good spot to hang with a coffee and pie for a bit.
Breakfast one was a bit boarding just cause the others are so unique but it was well made and a nice easy one handed breakfast if youâre...
Read moreHoly s@*t !!! If you are a pie conessure then you need to go here. Even if you dont eat pies often, you should still go here. The pies are awesome and some how they keep coming up with new fillings. Last one i saw was Cajun chicken and nacho. Awesome!!! I got there with five people in front of me, by the time i was served there were 30 people behind me. This place is popular and any wonder, the food is delicious. If you dont want to wait a bit then timing is everything. That said the service was swift.
I am a meat eater through and through, but that week i had the hey dahl pie (vegan i believe) and it was bloody awesome. (I went back and got another later in the week). It was that nice.
So many pies, so little time. For those that don't want a pie there are beautiful sandwiches available as well.
GO HERE, YOU...
