We stopped in Rawene to go to The Boatshed Cafe which was unfortunately closed for a function on 9 April 2022. There were not many other options in Rawene for food, but we saw this cafe was open. It was 12.50pm so we were looking for lunch. We stood looking at the menu for about 5 minutes before we decided what we wanted and approached the counter. When we went to order we were told “the kitchen is closed for cleaning” we asked how long that might be for she replied “a while..” and then said “you can get cabinet food or coffee” but with not many options in the cabinet apart from some muffins we decided to leave and try our luck in Opononi. We were very confused by this experience. It seemed pretty clear to us that the young girls behind the counter simply could not be bothered...

Don't ignore this cafe by staring at the warf or the arrival of the ferry. It's an absolute treat to wander around, admire the work of local artists and finish the tour with a delicious lunch. Try the Chicken, Camembert Panini and finish it with their moreish Kumara Cake with Yoghurt Honey Sauce, you won't regret it. And when you've finished and are reade to depart from food/art heaven walk up the hill, cross the street, dive around the corner and visit the puzzle/game shop. Don't miss it, its unique! Hundreds of quirky games and mindbending Rubric's Cube type of puzzles. The owner is more than willing to show his collection from all...

Fabulous cafe on the Hokianga. Spacious place that is also an amazing art gallery with a lot of very nice art pieces on display. Live musician was playing some relaxing guitar. Perfect place for a breakfast, lunch or dinner. It was open late on Sat (til 8pm) as we discovered, after finding the takeaway up the road closed at 6!! The New Era Cafe food was delicious, clean and prices were a bit Aucklandish, however we were happy to find this quality place. Great selection of tea, freshly made pizzas, yummy burgers and veggie options. Staff were very friendly and food came quickly,...

After a walk around Rawene decided to stop on for a coffee. Really lovely cafe, great decor, friendly staff, and great coffee. Tried their kumera cake and it was big enough for two, served with yogurt, bush honey and little flower, was absolutely delicious! The art gallery in the same building was interesting and beautifully presented. Plus a second hand book shop completed the experience. Great place to stop and wait for the Narrow car ferry.

The New Era Cafe in Rawene is a true delight! With stunning harbor views in the heart of the town. The blend of an art gallery and cafe creates a unique ambiance. The food is delicious, the coffee is on point and the location is unbeatable. A must-visit spot!
